  • The Geopolitical Trap Being Set for Israel

The Geopolitical Trap Being Set for Israel

Recent days have placed the Middle East on the brink of an unprecedented geopolitical upheaval. The critical security discussion Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held yesterday in the cabinet, which dealt with the alarming possibility of Syrian forces—in the form of al-Julani’s organizations—entering Lebanon, demands that we look reality in the eye.

    Photo: Reuters

Behind these scenarios stands the changing dynamic of the American administration, led by President Trump’s repeated statements. Trump, out of deep appreciation for his friendship with Erdoğan and a desire to accommodate Turkish needs, is sketching a roadmap that could lead Syrian forces to fight Hezbollah on Lebanese soil.

On its face, this might look like a “gift” to Israeli interests—weakening Hezbollah at the hands of external forces. But make no mistake: the Middle East has no free gifts, especially not when Erdoğan and al-Julani are involved.

Netanyahu’s Israel and the current cabinet are sending a clear message, and perhaps it’s time Washington internalized it: We deeply appreciate President Trump, the unwavering support, and the strategic partnership. At the same time, there are red lines Israel cannot cross.

The cabinet made clear yesterday, and rightly so: Israel will not allow a reality in which a “Daesh-like,” murderous and dangerous actor replaces Hezbollah on its border. We are not fighting this war to swap one threat for another radical threat. The entry of al-Julani’s forces into Lebanon is an event that could ignite the entire region and bring the threat to our doorstep in a way we won’t be prepared for.

Israel has made clear—and must make clear again to all concerned—that any such intervention from Damascus, with Turkish encouragement, would constitute crossing a red line that Israel will not pass over in silence. We’ve already known how to signal to the Assad regime in the past, and the lesson remained when it mattered: anyone trying to play with fire on our borders needs to know that his palace in Damascus is not immune.

The IDF is proving in this war that it doesn’t give up. The total deployment on the ground and the determination to remain in Lebanon as long as necessary until the Hezbollah threat is removed are the only guarantees for our security. We cannot allow external moves, the grandiose pretensions of regional leaders like Erdoğan, or political “gifts” between superpowers to dictate our security reality.

    Photo: Sana

The Middle East is too dangerous a place for experiments. Israel needs to continue leading an independent, clear, and courageous line: Israel will solve the Lebanon problem itself. We don’t need radical “saviors” to sit on our fence. We’ve kept the Hermon crown and will keep it, and we’ll also defend the entire northern border with our own hands. This is not just a state obligation—it’s an existential commitment to Israel’s security.

This column was written based on remarks made by our political commentator Yaakov Bardugo on “Israel This Morning” with Tal Meir.

  • Foreign Airlines Return to Israel

    Foreign Airlines Return to Israel

After months of cancellations, uncertainty and reduced operations by foreign airlines, Ben Gurion Airport continues to record a recovery. More and more international carriers are announcing their return to Israel—a move expected to increase flight supply, reopen sought-after destinations and restore some of the competition that vanished from the market in recent months.

The gradual return of foreign carriers comes against the backdrop of relative calm in the security situation and updated risk assessments by the airlines, allowing them to resume operating routes to Israel in the middle of the summer season.

Airlines that have already announced resumed operations:
    • June 25 – Qanot Sharq: Resuming flights to Tashkent and Samarkand.
    • June 29 – Air Europa: Returning to the direct Tel Aviv-Madrid route.
    • July 1 – Lufthansa: Resuming flights to Frankfurt. The Munich route is expected to return August 1.
    • July 1 – ITA Airways: Resuming direct flights to Rome.
    • July 1 – Air Baltic: Returning to the Tel Aviv-Riga route.
    • July 2 – One Click: Resuming flights to Tbilisi and Batumi.
    • July 10 – Eurowings: Returning to Hamburg flights.
    • July 18 – Eurowings: Expanding operations to Düsseldorf as well.
    • July 19 – FlyOne Romania: Resuming the direct route to Bucharest.
    • August 1 – Swiss: Returning to Zurich flights.

The aviation industry sees the current wave of returns as a particularly positive sign. Beyond increasing the number of destinations available to Israelis, the return of foreign carriers is expected to increase the number of seats in the market and gradually restore competition on ticket prices.

If there are no changes in the security situation, the coming months could mark the return of the Israeli aviation market to much broader activity, after a period when many travelers were forced to rely on a limited number of carriers and destinations.

Herzog’s Dream: Take a Car and Drive All the Way to Beirut

President Isaac Herzog addressed diplomatic contacts in the region, Iranian involvement in Lebanon, and U.S.-Israel relations in an interview with Fox News.

Addressing the possibility of a diplomatic settlement, Herzog emphasized that Israel isn’t opposed to a diplomatic solution but is committed to raising its legitimate security concerns. “We are definitely not opposed to a diplomatic outcome to the war, but we are raising concerns that are legitimate,” the president said. “A peace agreement between Israel and Lebanon cannot exist if Iran has such great influence and is trying to push itself into the conflict in Lebanon through a recognized terror organization called Hezbollah. Iran should not be involved at all in the crisis in Lebanon.”

Regarding relations with the United States, Herzog stressed that close, open, and credible dialogue is taking place between the two countries at all levels. “Israel and the United States have very close relations based on trust,” he said. “We can disagree, and raising legitimate concerns is completely legitimate, because Israel is on the front lines of this war. We are the ones absorbing Iranian missiles and their proxies, and we are working together with the United States to ensure that Iran does not achieve nuclear capability and does not become a nuclear threshold state.”

    Photo: IDF

Discussing the future of relations with Lebanon, Herzog recounted his recent visit to the northern border and his address to the Lebanese public and leadership in Arabic. “Israel has no territorial aspirations in Lebanon. We have no substantive disputes with Lebanon. We want peace, and my dream is to take a car and drive all the way to Beirut.”

Still, Herzog stressed that Hezbollah continues to work against the possibility of peace and to undermine regional stability. “How can we achieve peace between Israel and Lebanon when Hezbollah is hijacking Lebanon? Hezbollah opposes peace, has repeatedly violated the ceasefire, and it is a terror organization armed from head to toe by Iran. Someone has to do the work. Unfortunately, it’s our soldiers. I don’t see anyone else doing it, unless a diplomatic solution is reached that makes clear that Hezbollah is disarmed and is no longer able to prevent the path to peace.”

Netanyahu Condemns ‘Shameful Statements’ Against IDF Chief

    Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
“I strongly condemn the disgraceful remarks made against the Chief of Staff last night in Bnei Brak. Even when we have disagreements among ourselves, there is absolutely no place for severe incitement against the IDF and its commanders, who protect us all.”

Shas statement:”The extreme remarks made last night against the Chief of Staff during the rally in honor of Torah held in Bnei Brak do not reflect the views of our Council of Torah Sages and are contrary to the path of the Shas movement, as taught by our revered leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, and as expressed in the speech delivered by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef during the rally.”

Israeli Minister: 3 Gaza Communities Ready for Construction

Finance Minister and Defense Ministry Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced Monday evening that the Defense Ministry has completed planning for three communities in northern Gaza and can begin construction immediately, pending the Prime Minister’s approval.

Smotrich made the announcement after meeting with Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi. “The Administration under my leadership in the Defense Ministry has completed the staff work, and we are ready to establish three communities immediately the moment we get the green light from the prime minister,” he said. “I call on the prime minister to give the approval, let’s complete the mission and restore real security to the residents of the south.”

Smotrich also addressed the ongoing fighting in Gaza and stressed the need to complete the conquest of territory still held by Hamas. “The IDF currently controls nearly 70% of the Gaza Strip. We need to complete the conquest of the remaining territory, defeat Hamas, and establish a strip of Jewish communities that will serve as a security belt for Sderot and the Gaza envelope communities. Where there is no Jewish presence, there is no security. We are not returning to the reality before October 7,” he said.

Smotrich thanked Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi for his leadership during the war and his fight for the security of area residents. Davidi welcomed the remarks and said: “Finance Minister, thank you for everything you’ve done for the envelope. I was also one of those who called you and said: ‘Bezalel, fight,’ so that we wouldn’t stop the fighting until we push the threat away from Sderot and the envelope. This is the minimum required for the area’s residents to live in security.”

Herzog Praises Netanyahu in Romanian Parliament

Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed Romania’s parliament Monday during his state visit to the country. Upon arriving at the Palace of Parliament, Herzog met with Senate President Mircea Abrodeanu. He later met with Chamber of Deputies Speaker Sorin-Mihai Grindeanu and other senior government officials, discussing strengthening bilateral relations and pressing regional issues.

During his speech, Herzog spoke at length about the campaign against Iran and its proxies, praising American and Israeli leadership: “The Americans and Israelis have gone to war against Iran to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons, and to prevent this evil empire and its proxies from threatening all peace-loving nations in the Middle East. I commend United States President Donald Trump, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for their leadership in this war.”

Herzog addressed the recent memorandum of understanding signed in Washington between Israel and Lebanon, emphasizing its importance: “The recent memorandum of understanding between Israel and Lebanon, signed in Washington a few days ago, is a significant breakthrough for peace, and can serve as a cornerstone for the path forward. It requires the removal of Hezbollah and enables the creation of a foundation for a real peace agreement between the nations.”

    Photo: Kobi Gideon, GPO

Herzog praised Romania’s steadfast support for Israel since the war began: “When the most barbaric attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust occurred on October 7, Romania’s response was clear and unequivocal. Romania’s leadership immediately and without any reservation condemned the Hamas massacre, and stood as a beacon of humanity and a ray of hope in our darkest hour. Romania has repeatedly demonstrated extraordinary human solidarity in the complex struggle to free our hostages, who have been held cruelly in Gaza’s tunnels.”

Herzog concluded by thanking the American administration for leading diplomatic efforts and calling on the international community to join in support: “I thank President Trump, Secretary of State Rubio and the American administration for leading this important step, and call on the European Union and the international community to support it, to support Lebanon’s stability and economy and Israel’s security.”

  • Katz: Strikes Forced Iran to Pull Missiles From Caves

Katz: Strikes Forced Iran to Pull Missiles From Caves

Defense Minister Israel Katz revealed new details Monday about Israel’s security assessment following operations against Iran, claiming the damage to Tehran’s military capabilities runs deeper than previously reported.

According to Katz, Israel successfully struck Iran’s missile production infrastructure and launch capabilities. “We acted to suppress Iranian firing capability—we neutralized launchers and missiles, we blocked tunnels and even other things,” he said. “Now they’re pulling missiles out of tunnels. This isn’t the missile stockpile they planned to have, because we hit their production systems hard. They still have a stockpile of missiles… and they can fire missiles, that’s all they can do.”

Katz added that despite Iran’s remaining missile inventory, the IDF is ready to respond quickly to any development. “And at lightning speed, in an amazing way, truly amazing, the capability was achieved ahead of ‘Lion’s Roar’ to gain air superiority and strike in Tehran and Iran,” he said. “The IDF is ready for this, ready to renew, to pave the way, to attack and to defend.”

The defense minister also addressed home front preparations during the operation, explaining that decisions on gathering restrictions were made based on intelligence warnings. “If we see something that poses a more tangible danger, we’ll also brief the home front, extend defense measures and extend to offense,” he said. Katz later offered an assessment of the Gaza Strip and Hamas’s rearmament efforts. When asked whether the terror organization is rearming, he replied: “Hamas is rearming? I don’t know about that—we’re in Philadelphi, thank God.”

According to Katz, Israel now enjoys a clear strategic advantage over Iran following the operation’s achievements. “I think in Iran, Israel has a huge achievement. Operations ‘Rising Lion,’ ‘Lion’s Roar’—let’s take Israel and Iran before and after and see where each one stands.” Katz added that despite the damage to the Israeli home front, the scale of casualties was significantly lower than early assessments. “We had, to our pain and sorrow, fatalities on the home front… not in the very large numbers we feared there would be, mainly because of both the defense capability and the offensive strikes that neutralized and brought it down to very low numbers.”

The defense minister added that the leadership of the Iranian axis has gone underground following Israeli operations. “Iran’s leadership right now is underground, inside bunkers. Hamas leadership is in bunkers, Hezbollah leadership is in bunkers, and there’s no need—the Houthis, they’re also in bunkers. That’s the situation right now.” According to him, “When we operate, then everyone there is marked for death, but right now we’re in the situation we’re in.”

New Road Opens Direct Access to Tabernacle Site at Shiloh

The Shiloh HaKeduma national heritage site in Benjamin completed a major infrastructure project this week: a controlled-access road designed for visitors with severe physical disabilities and mobility challenges. The route, built through a dedicated private donation, will allow advance-coordinated vehicle access directly to the Tabernacle site and observation tower.

The new road was paved to provide focused solutions for visitors with mobility challenges, including disabled individuals and wounded soldiers, who until now couldn’t reach the historic sections of the site due to steep terrain conditions. The infrastructure work is happening alongside construction of a new visitors center and general site upgrades.

The dedicated private donation came after cases accumulated of wheelchair-bound visitors forced to give up on reaching the Tabernacle site. Officials made clear the route won’t be open to free vehicle traffic—it will remain closed and open only by advance coordination for visitors facing severe physical limitations, to preserve the historic site’s existing character.

Sharon Kalif, the site’s deputy director, explained the move was born from real need on the ground: “We saw many visitors with mobility challenges, including wounded soldiers and elderly people in wheelchairs, who arrive at the site but are forced to give up on the climb because of the steep terrain. We fought and raised the dedicated donation to pave this road.”

Benjamin Regional Council head Israel Gantz addressed the project: “Shiloh HaKeduma is a national asset belonging to all the people of Israel. Our aspiration and vision is that every person, regardless of physical limitations, can arrive and connect to our roots here. Breaking through this controlled accessibility route to the Tabernacle site is a necessary and values-driven step that integrates with the facelift we’re leading at the site.”

Kobi Mamo, CEO of Benjamin Tourism, added that the site is in the midst of comprehensive change: “Alongside building the new visitors center and other upgrades, it was clear to us that we couldn’t leave people with disabilities behind. The controlled solution we found allows us to now offer a responsible and focused accessibility solution. Every person who needs this assistance can now arrive in a dignified way right to the Tabernacle site itself.”

  • Buffer Zone With Ground Barrier Must Be Built at Litani

Buffer Zone With Ground Barrier Must Be Built at Litani

Among the surveillance soldiers, he was referred to by the nickname “Pitusi.” He was a Hezbollah terrorist who appeared in front of us, day after day, filming us while we held positions on the Lebanese border. I remember requesting permission to shoot him, and the command’s answer was clear: “Don’t shoot, he’s a known operative.” But that wasn’t the worst of it. Four months before the massacre, we watched with our own eyes as Hezbollah set up tents inside sovereign Israeli territory—and us? We were instructed to contain it and stay silent. That was the moment I understood that something in the foundations of our national security had cracked. They turned the enemy into a neighbor allowed to watch us, study us, and plan his next move while we were bound by definitions of false calm.

That surreal situation on the northern border wasn’t accidental. It was a reflection of a flawed concept: the notion that you can “manage” and contain terror. Hezbollah turned southern Lebanon into its sovereign territory, and it didn’t just arm itself; it fortified and waited for the day of command. There’s a famous saying by Clausewitz: “The line of contact will always be breached.” This is an iron law. As long as the enemy sits on our fence, the question isn’t whether he’ll break through, but only when. The massacre in the Gaza envelope communities taught us there’s no “quiet” facing terrorist organizations; there’s either containment or decisive victory. This past weekend, the State of Israel signed an agreement with the Lebanese government. This is indeed an important step, but we can’t ignore reality. Any decision that allows the Lebanese army control over territory is a decision that brings Hezbollah closer to Israel’s border and to the next October 7th, this time in the North.

So what should be done? The only entity that can and must protect Israeli citizens is the IDF, and no one else. How? Through territory. The only way to bring quiet and prosperity to the North is to distance all Lebanese from Israel’s border, at least to the Litani. It doesn’t matter if they wear Hezbollah uniforms or Lebanese army uniforms; it doesn’t matter if they’re Shiite, Sunni, Christian, or anything else. We belong to the generation of victory. We understand that we must ensure the North doesn’t become another Gaza Strip, and therefore we need to establish a new political-security fact—a sterile buffer zone to the Litani. The time has come for permanent, reality-changing actions.

    Photo: IDF

The intention isn’t to establish another security zone like before, but to create a truly sterile space. To turn this space into a real shield, two bold decisions are required:

    1. Establishing a permanent natural barrier: The Litani is the right strategic border. After months of extended maneuvering, the Engineering Corps must complete the work and establish a permanent physical barrier that clearly defines: from here on, Israel doesn’t allow a hostile presence. Creating a sterile buffer zone between the fence and the Litani, and at the northern edge a massive permanent barrier that stays here for years: a trench, deployed sensors, mines, and any element attempting to cross is destroyed. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Hezbollah terrorist or a Lebanese citizen, you don’t cross.

    2. Clearing the space: Unlike the security zone, this time we don’t leave any hostile settlement, Christian or Shiite, on the fence. Every settlement remaining on the fence, even if Christian, is a potential breach. Hezbollah knows how to exploit any human space to infiltrate. You can’t achieve security sterility if the space is populated, and therefore the territory must be cleared.

    Photo: IDF

We can’t continue living in a reality where the initiative is in the enemy’s hands. Our mission is to stop reacting to threats and start shaping a reality where the enemy will never approach our fence. The time to do this is now. The window of opportunity is closing, and every action not taken today we’ll pay for in the future with the blood of many soldiers. The time has come to stop tying the fighters’ hands and order the IDF to establish the buffer zone that will serve as Israel’s border for the next hundred years. The time has come to stop deluding ourselves with fragile arrangements. A buffer zone, sterile, absolute—this is the key to victory.

Liberman Announces New Recruit From Sa’ar’s Party

Yisrael Beiteinu announced today (Monday) that Attorney Edi Mordachayev, deputy mayor of Ramla, is joining the party after serving on the city council representing Gideon Sa’ar’s New Hope party. The party said Mordachayev will support Avigdor Liberman for Prime Minister.

    Photo: Not available

Mordachayev said: “I chose to join Yisrael Beiteinu and support Avigdor Liberman because in the complex reality Israel has found itself in, we need a strong, experienced, determined leader—one who has already seen everything and knows how to make tough decisions when necessary. Liberman has proven leadership, responsibility, and consistency over the years, and I believe he is the right person to lead the State of Israel forward.”

About a week and a half ago, Yisrael Beiteinu announced that Miki Fishman, former manager of the Russian-speaking campaign for Yesh Atid, had joined Yisrael Beiteinu and was backing party chairman Avigdor Liberman as candidate for prime minister.
