The UN General Assembly is set to take place in New York this week while the US and Iran remain in a state of conflict. Nevertheless, the US authorized Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to enter the country and attend the assembly.
Now, just days before the event, Araghchi has made a bizarre demand of the Americans: provide him with security during his stay in New York. Surprisingly, the US State Department reviewed the request and the associated risks, deciding to grant the request and provide him with security personnel from the Diplomatic Security Service.
This marks a new level of absurdity in the confrontation between the two nations, with the US protecting a senior Iranian official—who feels threatened primarily by the US itself.
