Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took the podium at UN headquarters Wednesday to address the General Assembly. The Iranian president continued the false narrative that Iran isn’t pursuing a bomb or nuclear weapons—claiming the country only wants nuclear power as an energy source. That’s despite contradicting himself earlier when he said Iran is pursuing power to prevent threats to its security.
Pezeshkian said: “America has committed crimes against Iranian citizens, and it is the one creating difficulties for our ability to enjoy access to shipping routes. We want to cooperate to achieve security. Following this, we are pursuing power to prevent threats to our security and for advancement in the scientific field.”
He added: “Iran needs nuclear energy, not a nuclear bomb. We are not seeking to obtain nuclear weapons.” The president also said that “Iran will not submit to military force and believes in diplomacy.”
