A disturbing video posted on X today (Wednesday) shows two young Muslims in Germany harassing a Jewish man on his way to synagogue, shouting neo-Nazi slogans at him and making gestures associated with Hitler. Shlomo Afanasev from Berlin’s Jewish community wrote in the post that the two also threatened the Jewish man’s life.

Afanasev wrote on X: “In Berlin, a leading member of my Jewish community Kahal Adass Jisroel
was threatened with death on his way to the synagogue. Two men hurled antisemitic insults at him, and one repeatedly gave the Hitler salute.” According to him, police arrested only one of the suspects.
“Such scenes are deeply shocking. Antisemitism is not a memory of the past—it is a reality of the present. And that Jews, of all places in Germany, must once again fear for their safety on the way to the synagogue is profoundly painful. Our history obliges us not to look away, not to downplay it, and not to remain silent. Jew-hatred must never again become part of everyday life,” he added.

The Israeli Embassy in Germany also responded to the disturbing footage, saying: “Something has changed in Germany. Young Muslim men threaten a Jew on his way to the synagogue with death. They repeatedly perform the Hitler salute publicly. They show their faces openly, state their names. They no longer have any shame.” The embassy added: “It is the task of the police to stop them from their actions. But it is a societal task to ensure that such people feel shame again and are not proud of their actions.”
