Tehran told Berlin that German military facilities and forces in the region will be considered targets if Germany openly joins military action against Iran, according to Iran's Fars News Agency.

Iran’s Fars News Agency reported Sunday that Tehran has sent Germany a stark warning: if Berlin openly joins military action against the Islamic Republic, all German military bases and facilities across the region will be considered legitimate targets for attack.

According to the report, the threat is conditional—not an announcement of imminent strikes. The Iranian message is meant to deter Germany from moving beyond political or defensive support to direct participation in military operations against Tehran. Fars did not specify which German facilities were included in the warning, who delivered it to Berlin, or exactly when. No official German response to the report had been published at the time of its release.

The threat against Germany joins a series of Iranian warnings in recent days. Senior officials in Tehran have threatened that renewed American and Israeli strikes against Iran will lead to attacks on U.S. bases, airports, energy infrastructure, ports, data centers, and undersea communications cables in Gulf states.

The new message expands the deterrence framework to include a major European power. From Tehran’s perspective, Germany’s very participation in an open strike against Iran could turn facilities associated with it in the region into targets—even if they’re not operated as independent German bases.

The Fars report contradicts the public position Germany presented at the start of the war. German Foreign Minister Jochen Wadephul said then that Berlin would not participate in strikes against Iran, and clarified that German forces would operate only in self-defense if attacked. He even said Germany has no military bases or comparable capabilities in the region.

Meanwhile, earlier this month it was reported that Iran is considering strikes on U.S. bases in Germany, including Ramstein and Spangdahlem. These are American bases on German soil, not German bases in the Middle East—but the reports show Tehran is marking infrastructure supporting American and Western operations as part of the conflict.
