Rome Talks Resume as US Bridges Israel-Lebanon Rift

Against the backdrop of growing tension, Israel and Lebanon resumed the third meeting of the seventh round of negotiations in Rome this morning (Thursday). Despite the severe incident in Southern Lebanon—in which two soldiers fell and four were seriously injured, initially leading to Israeli refusal to resume talks and plans for a major military response—the United States intervened and bridged differences between the parties.

According to a report in the Lebanese newspaper Nidaa al-Watan, Washington acted urgently to curb escalation and limit the Israeli response in order to protect the “momentum” built at the negotiating table thus far. Talks are currently progressing across three main tracks: political, military, and border demarcation.

Along the border track, progress was reported on the land border file, featuring the presentation of historical documents and deliberations over disputed points along the Blue Line. On the military track, the concept of “model zones” is being evaluated—a mechanism through which the Lebanese Army would assume responsibility over designated areas as “test zones” in place of Hezbollah terrorists.

It was further reported that the Lebanese delegation proposed Bint Jbeil and Al-Khiam as initial model areas, but Israel has yet to respond to the proposal, and Americans express skepticism regarding the Lebanese Army’s operational capability to execute concrete actions such as destroying tunnels and confiscating weaponry. Meanwhile, on the political track, disagreement persists over the verification and monitoring mechanism. Israel demands to conduct oversight itself, whereas Lebanon proposes American or European entities. Due to mutual objections regarding France and Spain, Italy may ultimately be selected as the mediating party overseeing implementation on the ground.

Political Tensions Arise Against Backdrop of Severe Incidents in Southern Lebanon

The IDF Spokesperson cleared for publication this morning that during operational activity in the village of Majdal Zoun, Major (res.) Harel Birenstock, 34, and Master Sergeant (res.) Tamir Vaknin, 33, were killed after an explosive device planted by the Hezbollah terror organization struck forces inside a booby-trapped building. Four additional soldiers were severely wounded in the incident.

Furthermore, the IDF launched a targeted wave of strikes yesterday in Southern Lebanon after issuing an urgent evacuation order to residents of the village of Al-Mansouri, located within a security zone where military activity posing risks to civilians is ongoing. A military source explained that Lebanese civilians arrived at the location under the auspices of the Lebanese Army—which erected a checkpoint in the sector in violation of agreements.

The IDF Spokesperson emphasized at the time that the targeted strikes began in response to a series of Hezbollah violations, including the launch of an explosive drone toward an engineering vehicle belonging to our forces at the Ali Taher ridge approximately a week ago. As highlighted by our military analyst Noam Amir, despite talks of diplomatic understandings, Hezbollah persists in its rearmament efforts and return to Southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese Army, which is meant to serve as a balancing force, presents numerous enforcement challenges and fears searching booby-trapped structures, leaving terrorists with virtually unhindered freedom of operation. The emerging conclusion from intelligence and operational assessments is unequivocal: the mission in Lebanon is far from complete.

The United States intervened last night (Wednesday) to prevent a wide-scale escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz considered a significant military response following the severe incident in Majdal Zoun, in which two soldiers were killed and others wounded, according to a report published Thursday morning in the Lebanese newspaper Nidaa al-Watan.

According to the report, while negotiations between the parties were ongoing in Rome, Washington acted swiftly to scale down the Israeli retaliation and prevent events on the ground from derailing progress in the talks. The newspaper claimed that American intervention allowed the third day of discussions to proceed as scheduled.

The IDF had requested to launch a broad offensive against Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon, but the political leadership halted the plan, according to the report. It was claimed that Israel ultimately settled for a more limited wave of strikes, which included aerial bombardment and artillery fire across several sectors in Southern Lebanon.

A Lebanese official told the newspaper that the state attempted to contain tensions through a series of political and security contacts. According to the official, a lack of cooperation on Hezbollah’s part, combined with Israel’s insistence on acting against any perceived threat, leaves the possibility of escalation wide open.

Has Iran Given Up on Gaza?

Is Tehran signaling a change of approach? Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that his country will support any decision made by the Arabs in the negotiations on the Gaza Strip, even if this means that the Hamas leadership will make independent decisions.

According to Iranian media reports, Pezeshkian spoke by phone with the head of Hamas’ political bureau, Khalil al-Hayya, and congratulated him on his election to the position. During the conversation, the Iranian president emphasized that Tehran “stands by the ‘Palestinian’ people” and will continue to support them, but added that Iran supports “any step or decision” taken by Arab leaders in the negotiations on the future of the Gaza Strip.

According to the Hamas statement, Pezeshkian told al-Hayya: “We are with you and support any step you decide to take, despite the aggression we ourselves are experiencing.” On the other hand, Al-Hayya thanked the Iranian president for Tehran’s support and updated him on developments in the negotiations, along with the situation in the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria, and Jerusalem.

The Iranian president’s statement is particularly striking against the backdrop of Tehran’s traditional position, which has been considered one of Hamas’s main supporters over the years. Just a few days ago, the Revolutionary Guards declared that “the plot to disarm Hamas has failed,” following reports of political initiatives to end the fighting in the Gaza Strip.

The report also indicates that Hamas had previously hoped that Iran would push, within the framework of its talks with the United States, for the issue of the Gaza Strip to become a central part of any future agreement, but according to the report, senior Iranian regime officials did not provide a clear commitment on the matter to the organization’s representatives.

IDF Uncovers Thousands of Hezbollah Sites in South Lebanon

Thousands of terror infrastructure sites used by Hezbollah were located in recent months during IDF operations in Southern Lebanon, the military announced today (Thursday). According to the statement, over the years the organization established its military activity inside civilian villages in the area.

As part of operations by forces under Northern Command, troops uncovered headquarters, staging and launch positions, observation posts, underground infrastructure, and numerous weapons used by Hezbollah operatives. The IDF noted that the infrastructure was deployed across various hubs throughout Southern Lebanon and served diverse operational needs.

The IDF stated that Hezbollah embedded these facilities in the heart of the civilian population, turning villages across Southern Lebanon into a primary operational zone. According to the military, operating within civilian areas allowed the organization to disguise its activities and launch operations from populated centers.

It was further reported that placing infrastructure inside villages exploited local residents and put them at risk. IDF forces continue operating in the sector to locate additional infrastructure, strike Hezbollah’s capabilities, and eliminate threats to the State of Israel.

  • Clash Over Amnesty and Immunity for Hamas Terrorists

Clash Over Amnesty and Immunity for Hamas Terrorists

According to Israeli officials, the Board of Peace’s interpretation could potentially encompass terrorists who actively participated in the October 7th massacre. The alarming implication is that Israel would be unable to eliminate them or imprison them within the Gaza Strip, so long as they do not return to active terror operations.

The Board of Peace explains that the basis for this stance is rooted in US President Donald Trump’s 20-Point Plan, which was also signed by Israel in October 2025. The agreement contains a clause stipulating that once all hostages are returned, Hamas terrorists who commit to peaceful coexistence and disarmament will receive amnesty.

A source within the Board of Peace explained that although there is no explicit mention of amnesty in the 15-Point Agreement, it appears in the 20-Point Agreement signed in Sharm el-Sheikh by Israel as well, and the Board of Peace is now fully adopting it.

The same source added that the agreement contains no specific exclusion for terrorists who took part in the October 7th massacre, arguing that this clause should have been clarified prior to signing in October 2025. Conversely, Israel firmly rejects this interpretation, asserting that it represents a completely distorted reading of the text.

Official sources emphasize that the clause applies solely to a post-full-disarmament and demilitarization reality, and does not apply to individuals who murdered Jews—referring strictly to Hamas operatives against whom there is no evidence of involvement in actual hostile terror activity against Israel.

  • IDF Launches Counterterror Operation in Qalandiya

Following our initial report that the political leadership approved a series of significant offensive operations across several sectors in Judea and Samaria, the IDF and Shin Bet announced that our forces began a counterterrorism, enforcement, arrest, and interrogation operation overnight (Wednesday) in the Qalandiya area within the Binyamin Brigade sector. Forces continue operating at this hour in the Qalandiya camp near Ramallah and in Kafr Aqab in Jerusalem.

According to the announcement, the operation aims to disrupt and thwart organizational capabilities of terror groups in the region, expand freedom of action for security forces following numerous violent incidents during recent entries into the area, and enhance overall security in the sector.

As part of the operation, we reported that the IDF distributed leaflets to residents of the Qalandiya terror camp stating: “As you can see, there is no shelter for terrorism. IDF forces have begun an extensive operation in the area against terrorists. We will use all means, anywhere and anytime, to thwart any attempt to execute acts of terror. Any attempt to harm Israeli civilians or Israeli security forces exposes perpetrators to live fire and arrest.”

Anti-Israel Progressive Wins Michigan Dem. Senate Primary

The progressive wing of the US Democratic Party recorded a dramatic achievement in Michigan’s Senate primary. Abdul El-Sayed, who called for an end to military aid to Israel, defeated moderate Haley Stevens. The victory was achieved with encouragement from the state’s large Arab community and is raising grave concern among supporters of Israel

The extreme progressive wing of the US Democratic Party achieved a significant victory as candidate Abdul El-Sayed won the state’s Democratic Senate primary election last night (Tuesday). El-Sayed, who placed a firm call to halt military aid to the State of Israel at the center of his campaign, managed to overcome moderate Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who enjoyed the backing of the Democratic establishment and pro-Israel organizations.

The race in Michigan turned into a passionate political battlefield between the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party, particularly surrounding the issue of support for Israel. Stevens benefited from tens of millions of dollars in funding from pro-Israel groups, who argued she was the candidate with the highest chances of winning the general election. Now, El-Sayed will face the Republican candidate Mike Rogers, a former congressman.

US political analysts point out that the key factor behind El-Sayed’s victory is the large Arab-American community residing in Michigan, where deep hostility toward Israel exists. The election results are expected to dramatically influence the future of the Democratic Party and spark an intense debate over the power of the anti-Israel wing ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

The US President reacted: “Great news for the Republican Party. El-Sayed, the communist loser who hates Jews and Israel, is the expected winner in his race with the socialist. As usual, the polls were way off on this issue. She was not expected to perform nearly as well as she did. Now, the crazy policy of the Democrats will only get worse!”

Israel Halts Rome Lebanon Talks Early Over Leaks

The seventh round of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel continued today (Wednesday) in Rome, coinciding with a wave of strikes launched by our forces earlier against targets belonging to Hezbollah—which violated the ceasefire. After both sides agreed during the previous round to initiate the pilot phase involving the withdrawal of IDF forces and the entry of the Lebanese Army, Arab media report that Beirut will seek to expand the framework.

According to reports, both sides appeared to view the current session through contrasting lenses. Lebanese sources described the atmosphere of the talks as positive, while the American side conveyed encouraging indications regarding the progress of deliberations. However, the Israeli side does not appear to concur with assertions of a positive atmosphere.

According to a report by our correspondent Saria Harari, a source within the negotiation team stated that Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter—who serves as head of the Israeli delegation—requested that the Americans halt the talks approximately three hours prior to their scheduled conclusion, following repeated and biased leaks by the Lebanese delegation.

Although negotiations are slated to resume and continue moving forward, our correspondent Noam Amir reported that conditions on the ground within the southern “pilot” zones remain far from what was envisioned. According to the report, Hezbollah continues to exert control over substantial elements of the Lebanese Army and is booby-trapping transit routes, with the Lebanese Army already recording two significant incidents involving the group. Furthermore, Lebanese Army officers and soldiers refuse to conduct searches of the terror group’s structures, primarily due to severe concerns that those locations were pre-rigged with explosive devices awaiting their forces. This dynamic leaves Hezbollah’s operational scope virtually unhindered.

IDF Chief of Staff Visits Gaza, Vows No Security Threats

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour in the Gaza Strip today (Wednesday), during which he held a dialogue with commanders in the sector. Battalion commanders presented him with an operational situational assessment, after which he spoke with division and brigade commanders operating in the area, expressing his appreciation to the troops and commanders acting in Gaza to protect the residents of the State of Israel.

    Photo: IDF Spokesperson Unit

Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir stated: “We are applying the security doctrine we defined—not only here, but along all of Israel’s borders. In the Gaza Strip, we hit Hamas, weakened it significantly, and fundamentally changed the security landscape. The IDF will continue to act with initiative and follow the core principle we established—to remove threats and in every situation defend the communities and residents, ensuring their safety. We will not allow a threat to form on our borders as we experienced on October 7th.”

The Chief of Staff added: “I wish to express immense appreciation to Southern Command and the divisions operating in the sector for their ongoing initiative, determination, and offensive spirit. A tangible example of this is the relentless pursuit of Nukhba terrorists and all those who participated in planning and executing the October 7th massacre. This is a permanent, ongoing mission that the command is fulfilling with great success. The images from the communities, the Bibas family, the female field observers, and all victims of the October 7th massacre stand before our eyes every single day. We will continue to pursue those responsible and will not relent until we settle the score with everyone who played a part in the massacre—sooner or later. This is a permanent and ongoing mission.”

Finally, he said: “We must continue operating to defend the residents of the Gaza envelope. Your defense and security are our objective—we will continue working to fortify security. We have fundamentally altered the security situation, and we will continue operating to guarantee that the IDF stands at the forefront of the communities, protecting the communities and residents and safeguarding their security.”

Israeli Official: Response to Hezbollah Breaches Not Over

Following the IDF’s urgent evacuation warning to residents of the village of Al-Mansouri in Southern Lebanon, our forces launched a targeted wave of strikes in the area “in response to a blatant violation by the Hezbollah terror organization.” Now, an Israeli official has told Channel 14 News that “the response to Hezbollah’s violation has not yet concluded.”

The IDF Spokesperson emphasized that targeted strikes began in response to the organization’s violations, following a series of recent incidents in which Hezbollah breached the ceasefire in the sector. A military source explained that the village of Al-Mansouri lies within the security perimeter under our forces’ control, where military activity that poses a risk to Lebanese civilians is actively ongoing. The IDF evacuated residents to ensure their safety. According to the source, those civilians arrived under the auspices of the Lebanese Army, which set up a checkpoint in the area in violation of agreements.

The evacuation order comes against the backdrop of a series of incidents in which Hezbollah violated the ceasefire in the sector. Just days ago, the IDF confirmed that Hezbollah launched an explosive drone toward an engineering vehicle belonging to our forces in the Ali Taher ridge area—an incident that ended without casualties but constituted a blatant violation of agreements. Following these events, the IDF made clear that it will not permit terrorists to advance or execute terror plots against forces operating on the ground.

In a statement issued to residents by the Kfar Vradim Local Council, locals were informed that our forces will conduct a series of strikes in western Lebanon in the coming hours, and explosive sounds are expected to be heard. It was further stated that, as of now, there is no change in situational assessments or Home Front Command guidelines.

Concurrently with the escalation along the northern border, an Israeli delegation met earlier today with a Lebanese delegation as part of ongoing negotiations between the two nations. Our diplomatic correspondent, Saria Harari, reported that a source within the negotiation team stated Israeli Ambassador to Washington Yechiel Leiter—who heads the Israeli delegation—requested that Americans halt the talks three hours before their scheduled conclusion due to repeated, biased leaks originating from the Lebanese delegation.

During the previous round of talks, both countries agreed to launch a “pilot” phase, under which our forces would withdraw from designated points in Southern Lebanon and permit the Lebanese Army to enter to prevent Hezbollah’s return. Despite this, our analyst Noam Amir reported last night that the situation on the ground within the pilot areas remains far from achieving that goal.

According to his report, Hezbollah continues to exert control over large portions of the Lebanese Army and booby-traps transport routes, with the Lebanese Army already recording two significant confrontations with the group. Furthermore, Lebanese Army officers and soldiers refuse to search Hezbollah structures, primarily due to severe fears that those buildings have been pre-rigged with explosives awaiting their troops. This dynamic leaves Hezbollah’s operational freedom virtually unhindered.
