Herzog Sits With Iran & Arab Reps at Baku CICA Summit

An extraordinary diplomatic configuration unfolded in Baku on Thursday as Israeli President Isaac Herzog took part in the CICA (Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia) summit, seated alongside delegations from states that maintain no formal diplomatic relations with Israel—including Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Iraq. Beyond the remarkable composition of the summit hall, the way the Israeli president traveled to Baku drew widespread attention after he crossed Turkish airspace unhindered, despite Ankara’s sweeping ban on Israeli government flights.

Hall seating arrangement: Herzog alongside representatives of Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Iraq

The summit convened as part of an Asian multinational forum dedicated to regional security, cross-border cooperation, and multilateral confidence-building. Seated alongside Herzog were senior delegates from Russia, China, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, as well as the Emir of Qatar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The high-profile gathering stood out sharply against ongoing regional geopolitical and military tensions, marked by the presence of an Iranian representative in the same hall as Israel’s head of state.

Yet the operational drama began well before the president touched down in Baku. According to a report by Middle East Eye, Herzog reached Azerbaijan on a scheduled commercial flight operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), crossing straight through Turkish airspace. Aviation tracking data from Flightradar24 identified the journey as flight J222 from Ben Gurion Airport to Baku, serviced by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Since 2024, Ankara has enforced a flight ban prohibiting official Israeli government aircraft from entering Turkish skies; however, this restriction does not apply to civilian commercial airliners. A scheduled commercial flight allowed Herzog to fly a direct route rather than take an arduous, circuitous detour over Greece, Bulgaria, and the Black Sea.

A Turkish official told Middle East Eye that Baku did not alert Ankara that the Israeli head of state was aboard the civilian aircraft. “Naturally, Turkey cannot demand passenger manifests for every commercial airliner that crosses its sovereign airspace,” the official noted. The Israeli President’s Office declined to comment on the flight’s logistics. According to reports, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan skipped the Baku summit entirely and dispatched Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan instead. However, no formal confirmation linked Erdogan’s absence to Herzog’s attendance.

Social media observers highlighted an additional layer of symbolism: the AZAL Dreamliner Herzog flew on bears the name “Shusha,” commemorating the strategic city central to the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict and the namesake of the 2021 Shusha Declaration allied pact between Baku and Ankara. While online commentators framed this as subtle diplomatic irony directed at Ankara, no official statement said the airframe was chosen for symbolic reasons.

During his visit to Azerbaijan, Herzog met with President Ilham Aliyev and toured the Israeli Embassy in Baku to observe the opening of overseas balloting for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. “This is an immensely meaningful moment in my state visit here in Azerbaijan,” Herzog remarked at the embassy. “I have the privilege of watching the democratic electoral process begin and observing how polling actually unfolds across Israel’s missions abroad.”

Addressing the Israeli public ahead of election day, the president concluded: “These are crucial elections following an extraordinarily difficult period for the State of Israel. My central message to all Israeli citizens is simple: elections are not a civil war.”

  • Eisenkot: “I Will Topple Hamas Within 18 Months”

Eisenkot: “I Will Topple Hamas Within 18 Months”

Former IDF Chief of Staff and chairman of the “Yashar!” party Gadi Eisenkot delivered a policy address on Thursday along the Gaza Strip border, sharply criticizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wartime conduct while unveiling his diplomatic and security platform. Eisenkot opened with an explicit campaign pledge: “I commit: within 18 months of entering the Prime Minister’s Office, Hamas will no longer govern the Gaza Strip. We will bring about the destruction of Hamas’s military wing. This will be achieved either through action based on President Trump’s framework, which was accepted by the Netanyahu government, or through the employment of decisive military and operational capabilities.”

Eisenkot took direct aim at the current government’s record, claiming that the prime minister’s public slogans mask continuous surrender. “As long as Benjamin Netanyahu remains in power, Hamas will remain in power,” Eisenkot asserted. “The man who hangs banners declaring ‘No Surrender’ is the first to surrender: to draft evaders, to his coalition partners, and to Hamas.” He continued: “Never in Israel’s history has a government received so much maneuvering room and international and public legitimacy, only to suffer such a resounding strategic failure. Three years after the October 7 massacre, Hamas remains sovereign in the Gaza Strip—armed, rearming, and rehabilitating its military capabilities.”

Eisenkot emphasized what he termed an unbridgeable divide between battlefield troops and political decision-makers: “In Iran, in Lebanon, and in Gaza, a deep chasm exists between the achievements of our fighters on the ground and Netanyahu’s failure to meet the very war objectives he defined.” Insisting that structural failures must not be treated as inevitable fate, Eisenkot reiterated the demand for accountability: “We will make bold decisions, formulate a national strategy, investigate October 7 through a State Commission of Inquiry, and implement the operational lessons. This is not a luxury; it is an urgent security imperative. I have the knowledge and experience to professionally lead the IDF, the Mossad, and the Shin Bet.”

The Likud party issued a terse, pointed response aimed at confronting Eisenkot with his prospective coalition math, asking derisively: “How will you topple Hamas without receiving permission from your partners Mansour [Abbas] and [Ahmad] Tibi?” Through the jab, Likud signaled that Eisenkot’s security pledges lack practical political backing, arguing that the dictates of Arab party partners would paralyze any future government he attempts to form. In response to Likud’s barb, the “Yashar!” party stated: “For 17 years, Netanyahu and the Likud have misled Israeli citizens and strengthened Hamas. If you had focused a little more on your mission and a little less on drafting talking points, perhaps you could have prevented October 7. In 12 days, you are going home.”

Simultaneously, the “Amcha Yisrael” party, led by Brig. Gen. (res.) Ofer Winter, issued a scathing rebuke of Eisenkot, attacking his military record and General Staff appointments: “Gadi Eisenkot was the Chief of Staff of the ‘Conceptsia’ [flawed security paradigm] who pushed for containment and arrangements, and called to halt the war before we entered Rafah. The General Staff appointed by Eisenkot was composed of Yair Golan, Aharon Haliva, and Herzi Halevi, promoting disastrous doctrines that marched Israel directly into October 7. There will not and cannot be decisive victory under a government run by Gadi Eisenkot and Yair Golan.”

Winter’s party framed the central question of the upcoming election: “The question in this election is who will lead Israel’s defense policy in the coming years: Eisenkot-Golan-Abbas, or Ofer Winter as Defense Minister alongside Yoseph Haddad as Public Diplomacy Minister, working together to achieve the voluntary migration of Gazans instead of importing them into Israel for ‘work.’”

Rubio Hosts Families of American Victims of October 7 Attack

Families of American citizens killed, kidnapped, or wounded in Hamas’s October 7 terror attack gathered today (Wednesday) at the State Department in Washington for a special memorial ceremony, attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and other senior officials.

During the event, the memory of American citizens affected by the attack was honored, and family members called for holding accountable all those involved in planning, executing, and aiding the murder of American citizens. According to them, accountability for the crimes committed on October 7 must transcend any political dispute.

“The events of October 7 were not just a tragedy for Israel. Nearly 50 American citizens were murdered and dozens more were wounded,” said Avi On, cousin of the late ,Carmela Dan. “We are here to ensure their stories are heard, their memory is honored, and those responsible for their murder are brought to justice.”

The families thanked the American administration for holding the memorial ceremony and emphasized that they will continue working to memorialize their loved ones and ensure those responsible for the attack are held accountable for their actions.

  • Ex-Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar Sues PM Netanyahu

Ex-Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar Sues PM Netanyahu

Former Shin Bet director Ronen Bar filed a NIS 3 million defamation lawsuit on Wednesday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The legal action stems from statements the Prime Minister made during an interview on Channel 14’s The Patriots, where Netanyahu maintained that, contrary to public campaigns, the head of the Shin Bet never issued an advance intelligence warning about the Gaza Strip before him.

Photo: Chaim Goldberg, Miriam Alster, Flash90

In the lawsuit, Bar argues: “Throughout his tenure, the plaintiff [Ronen Bar] repeatedly sought to challenge the directive issued by the defendant [the Prime Minister], proposed rebuilding deterrence, and advocated resuming targeted eliminations as a stabilizing instrument.” The statement of claim further asserts that the Prime Minister received an annual strategic planning summary in July 2023 carrying the following warning: “Hamas is entrenching its rule, building up capabilities, and igniting terrorism in Gaza, and there is a clear trend toward connecting operational arenas.”

However, the assertions outlined in the lawsuit stand in stark tension with two core facts: the Shin Bet’s operational posture on the morning of the massacre, and the internal findings of the Shin Bet’s own investigative report published by Bar himself. Behind the legal filing, critics argue that Bar is trying to deflect from the security agency’s acute failure to provide a warning and its misinterpretation of preliminary intelligence indicators. Contrary to the lawsuit’s claims, the official Shin Bet inquiry leaves no ambiguity: there was no advance alert. The institutional failure is recorded in stark terms.

    Photo: Flash90

According to the Shin Bet’s official internal investigation: “On 7/10 at 06:29, Hamas launched a broad assault that was not identified as such by the Shin Bet, and thus the organization failed in its mission.”

In his own inquiry, Bar determined that he did not deliver a warning, detailing the institutional drivers behind the intelligence collapse:

    • Deficient processing of intelligence regarding the “Jericho Wall” operational plan and procedural gaps in handling vital data.

    • Deviations from established counter-terrorism standard operating procedures on the night preceding the massacre.

    • The prevailing operational assessment that Hamas sought to incite escalation within Judea and Samaria rather than initiate war from the Gaza Strip.

The Shin Bet’s own investigation acknowledges that the alerts presented did not foresee an impending strategic assault originating from the Gaza Strip, raising sharp questions regarding the foundation of the legal suit.

    Photo: Avshalom Sassoni, Flash90

Bar devoted an entire chapter of the internal inquiry to the “Jericho Wall” cross-border invasion plan, conceding that the Shin Bet failed to convert the intelligence into a formal reference threat. As written in the report: “Hamas’s plan for a broad assault, designated ‘Jericho Wall,’ reached the Shin Bet in two iterations, in 2018 and in 2022. These plans were not processed into baseline reference threats and were therefore not presented as a prospective campaign scenario.”

In practical terms, the security agency knew the operational plan for years but did not brief political leadership on its tactical implications or define it as an active operational threat. While Bar’s defamation claim insists he warned of Hamas and the Gaza front, the agency’s formal findings state that the security establishment failed to recognize Hamas’s true intentions and avert the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel’s history.

  • Report: Egyptian Intel Chief Was Not on Pre-Oct 7 Jet

Report: Egyptian Intel Chief Was Not on Pre-Oct 7 Jet

New details have emerged regarding the Egyptian aircraft that touched down in Israel roughly a week and a half before the October 7 massacre. Contrary to widespread claims circulating in recent days, Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel was not aboard the aircraft that landed at Ben Gurion Airport on September 26, 2023, according to a report broadcast Wednesday evening on Kan News.

    Photo: Yossi Aloni/Flash90

According to military correspondent Itay Blumental, the executive jet operated by Egyptian charter carrier Smart Aviation carried two private businessmen traveling from Egypt to Israel. The aircraft landed at Ben Gurion Airport around 10:00 AM and departed back to Cairo roughly an hour later with no passengers on board. Multiple sources familiar with the flight’s manifest said both passengers entered the country via the Fattal VIP terminal, which regularly serves private aviation flights. Authorities described the arrival as a routine charter flight for business figures returning from Egypt, rather than an official diplomatic delegation or security-related visit. QAS managed ground handling for the turnaround at Ben Gurion Airport before the empty jet left Israeli airspace.

While the specific names of the two travelers have not been released publicly due to aviation privacy laws, their identities are fully registered with competent authorities, including the Population and Immigration Authority, the Ministry of Transport, the Fattal VIP terminal, and the charter company. The revelation follows intense public debate surrounding the arrival of the Egyptian flight shortly before Hamas’s cross-border assault. Last week, Maj. Gen. (res.) Avi Gil, former military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, confirmed that an Egyptian aircraft had indeed landed in Israel days before the massacre, sparking accusations and speculation regarding who authorized or participated in the visit.

The newly disclosed flight logs confirm that the aircraft did not carry Egypt’s intelligence minister and that the travel had no security or government mandate. While this directly refutes claims that Abbas Kamel landed in Israel on that flight, it does not rule out other high-level diplomatic or security contacts between Israeli and Egyptian officials in the period leading up to the attack.

Italy Bars Jewish Teachers Over Refusal to Denounce Israel

Antisemitism across Europe continues to escalate: A storm erupted in recent days after a delegation of Jewish educators from the United States and Israel canceled their participation in a professional study program in northern Italy, following demands that they sign an official anti-Israel declaration as a condition of entry. According to a report by Jewish Insider, the delegation included about 100 early childhood educators who planned to travel this month to the northern Italian city of Reggio Emilia to study the world-renowned local pedagogical method, which is widely used in Jewish preschools. However, ahead of the trip, participants were presented with a mandatory declaration requiring them to disavow “the occupation in Gaza and violations of the rights of children and human beings in the occupied territories, as well as anywhere in the world.”

The report indicated that the demand emerged following agitation by a faction of parents associated with the local host institution, who opposed the Jewish educators’ presence on grounds that they support Israel and the IDF. The participants categorically refused to sign the political pledge and subsequently canceled their travel. The host body, Reggio Children, had reportedly formulated an institutional position paper calling for the “demilitarization of schools.”

Pesha Kletenik, principal of the Manhattan Day School in New York and one of the intended participants, addressed the cancellation in a letter to her school community, describing the hostile vetting the educators faced. “Our identities were publicly exposed, and our personal and institutional social media profiles were scrutinized and portrayed as evidence of our support for Israel and the IDF,” she stated.

The Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School in Washington, D.C., also addressed the collapsed trip. A senior staff member at the school called the cancellation a painful community loss, emphasizing that educators and students would miss the planned pedagogical experience. The official remarked that the episode demonstrates “the ripple effects of global antisemitism.”

The incident provoked sharp political blowback within Italy. Senator Ivan Scalfarotto of the center-left Italia Viva party wrote on X: “Asking Jews, as Jews, to disavow the policies of the Israeli government is antisemitism.” Scalfarotto added that the fact that this occurred in Reggio Emilia, a city with deep democratic traditions, is deeply shocking. The controversy unfolds against alarming statistical indicators regarding antisemitism in Italy. According to the Foundation Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center (CDEC), 963 antisemitic incidents were recorded across the country in 2025, accompanied by a sharp uptick in physical assaults.

Reported incidents include the desecration of a Rome synagogue with Nazi graffiti, violent assaults targeting Jews in Milan, and street harassment in Venice. A recent nationwide poll revealed that roughly 15% of Italians consider assaults on Jews “justified.” The CDEC warned that antisemitic rhetoric is normalizing throughout Italian civil society, progressively shrinking the safe public spaces in which Jews can openly express their identity.

Israel Signs Deal for 12 Advanced Apache Helicopters from U.S.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the United States Pentagon signed a major defense procurement contract on Wednesday to acquire 12 advanced Boeing Apache attack helicopters for the Israel Defense Forces. The agreement was finalized under the direction of Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, following formal cabinet approval and several scheduling extensions Israel requested to navigate complex wartime budgetary constraints.

Under the signed agreement, the Israeli defense establishment will procure 12 cutting-edge AH-64E Apache “Echo” gunships—the most advanced variant in the airframe’s lineage. The attack helicopters are slated for initial delivery to the Israeli Air Force early in the coming decade. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the agreement framework was tailored through a concerted joint Israeli-American effort to accommodate both Israel’s urgent operational requirements and its prevailing fiscal limitations.

Defense Minister Israel Katz welcomed the execution of the contract: “The procurement of the Apache helicopters is a critical milestone in the IDF’s force buildup, one that will substantially augment its operational capabilities across a broad spectrum of threats and directly enhance the security of the State of Israel for years to come. I extend my deep gratitude to our partners in the U.S. administration and the Pentagon for their steadfast commitment to Israel’s defense and for the collaborative flexibility that brought this deal to fruition.”

    Photo: Elad Malka

Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram added: “Bringing the Apache deal to completion was made possible through creative mechanisms formulated alongside our American counterparts, enabling us to bridge structural gaps and adhere to tight budgetary constraints. The Ministry of Defense will continue pushing at full throttle to sign additional vital procurement agreements to guarantee immediate readiness for every operational scenario.”

President of Boeing Israel Maj. Gen. (res.) Ido Nehushtan stated: “Boeing has stood as a dedicated partner to Israel in constructing and modernizing its sovereign defense capabilities since the state’s inception. The IDF’s selection of the Apache Echo constitutes decisive proof of its battle-tested operational excellence and its continued indispensability in confronting evolving modern battlefield threats.”

Muslim Charities in Judea and Samaria Exposed as Hamas Fronts

IDF and Shin Bet forces have exposed terror organizations operating under the guise of charity associations in Judea and Samaria. In two targeted operations in Ramallah and Yatta, five operatives who collaborated with Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of ‘Palestine’ were arrested. According to the security establishment, the associations served as organizational and financial arms of the terror groups, exploiting ostensibly civilian activity.

Earlier this week, security forces raided the offices of the charity association “Addameer” in Ramallah. During the operation, computers, documents, and checkbooks bearing signs of designated Hamas funds were seized. According to the IDF and Shin Bet, the association is funded by terror money and operates to provide legal aid to imprisoned Popular Front terrorists in Israel.

Connection to the Attack That Killed Rina Shnerb

One of the most serious details exposed relates to the connection between the association and terrorists involved in the August 2019 attack at Ein Danny spring, in which Rina Shnerb, a 17-year-old girl, was murdered. According to the security establishment’s statement, some of the terrorists working at the association took part in the deadly attack.

In another operation conducted in recent weeks in the town of Yatta in the Judea Brigade sector, IDF forces directed by the Shin Bet raided the offices of the “Islamic Association for the Care of Orphans.” There, too, wanted individuals were arrested, and findings bearing signs of designated Hamas funds were seized.

Aid to Terrorists’ Families and Money Transfers to Hamas

According to the security establishment, the Yatta association, which was declared an illegal organization, served as an economic and organizational arm of Hamas. Its activities included transferring funds to the terror organization and supporting the families of terrorists and prisoners. The association’s director and other senior officials are Hamas operatives who have even served prison sentences in the past.

The IDF and Shin Bet emphasize that both associations exploited their ostensibly civilian activity to establish the standing of the terror organizations and advance their operations in Judea and Samaria. The five detainees and the seized findings were transferred for further investigation, and the security establishment clarifies that it will continue to act against terror infrastructure, including those operating under the guise of civilian organizations.

  • PM Says He Doesn’t Know Who Met Egyptian Intelligence Chief

PM Says He Doesn’t Know Who Met Egyptian Intelligence Chief

Political commentator Itamar Fleischman addressed on Wednesday morning, during Channel 14’s morning show hosted by Tal Meir, the dramatic disclosure made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his interview on The Patriots, in which Netanyahu stated that Egyptian Intelligence Minister Abbas Kamel visited Israel shortly before the October 7 massacre—yet the prime minister remains unaware of who met with him during that visit.

    Photo: Flash90

“The Prime Minister of Israel does not know who the Egyptian intelligence chief met before October 7. I can hardly believe I’m uttering this sentence,” Meir remarked. Fleischman responded that the admission is “an entirely dramatic statement,” which directly aligns with messaging emanating from Netanyahu and the Likud party in recent weeks. Fleischman questioned why the identities of those who met the senior Egyptian official have remained concealed from the public until now: “I think we must ask ourselves why the media hasn’t told us who was on that plane meeting with Abbas Kamel. I believe they know the answer, and I believe I know the answer as well.”

Nonetheless, Fleischman emphasized that he will refrain from publishing names until the individual in question or journalistic sources officially report it: “Until the person who was there on that plane steps forward and says it themselves, or a mainstream network journalist explains why this happened, we may never know for certain.” According to Fleischman, an unmistakable shift has emerged in Netanyahu’s public rhetoric over recent weeks. “This is the first time he isn’t speaking in traditional statesmanlike tones. I haven’t heard him speak like this in the last two or three weeks,” Fleischman noted, pointing to the prime minister’s explicit use of the term “deep state” and the Likud’s direct attacks against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.

Fleischman said this shift was triggered by persistent allegations that Netanyahu should be held accountable for the October 7 disaster. “From the moment they began accusing him of treason over October 7, I believe he recognized that there must be an aggressive response—and that he actually has a case,” he argued.

Fleischman subsequently urged former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar to step forward publicly and present his detailed account of the events preceding the massacre. “Come out and speak; explain precisely what occurred. We would be very glad to hear it,” he stated, noting that elements on the political left have exerted “immense pressure” on Bar in recent weeks to break his silence.

    Photo: Shutterstock

On Tuesday evening, Netanyahu addressed the allegations surrounding the Egyptian intelligence official’s visit during a special interview with Yinon Magal on The Patriots. Netanyahu categorically denied meeting Kamel, saying he was attending an IDF memorial service at that time. “He did not meet with me, because I was attending a memorial service for fallen IDF soldiers. Therefore, this claim was a falsehood from the outset,” the prime minister stated. He then posed the central question that he insists remains unanswered: “For heaven’s sake, I am the Prime Minister of Israel. The intelligence minister of Egypt was here—I want to know who he met with? I do not know.”

Netanyahu called for the public release of security camera footage documenting the visit to reveal the identities of those involved: “There are cameras, there is documentation, and I want to know the truth—because the truth is not that I was the one who met him.” The prime minister concluded with a severe charge: “Whoever met with him is attempting to stitch this onto me.”
