The Israeli government unanimously approved Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s proposal to appoint Lior Haiat as Israel’s ambassador to Rome. Haiat will also serve as non-resident ambassador to Malta and San Marino, and as permanent representative to the United Nations’ food and agriculture agencies.
Haiat currently serves as deputy director-general for North America at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Jerusalem. He previously held senior positions including Foreign Ministry spokesman, Israel’s consul general in Miami, and director of the Central America and Caribbean division. Before the government’s approval, the appointment was approved by the Ministerial Committee on Foreign Service Appointments, chaired by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
