Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman MK Boaz Bismuth warned Monday of a credible threat of physical attacks on Israeli public officials, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as the country prepares for elections.
Bismuth issued the warning during a hearing on election preparedness attended by Shin Bet chief David Zini and representatives from the Mossad and the Israel Defense Forces. He said the upcoming election could become a major target for Israel’s enemies: “Iran will try to turn the election into another front.”
Bismuth also criticized recent appointments to the Central Elections Committee, saying: “The series of questionable appointments made to the Central Elections Committee raises questions and demands explanations.”
