National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the Religious Zionism party launched sharp attacks today (Tuesday) against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara over allegations that she’s blocking an investigation into suspected fraud and foreign interference in elections. Ben-Gvir called for her prosecution, while Religious Zionism demanded she be removed from the probe—if the Shin Bet chief’s claims are true.

“Shin Bet’s investigation into election contamination and foreign interference being thwarted by Gali Baharav-Miara is a new peak of criminal activity by the rule-of-law gang, and a tangible danger to Israeli democracy,” Ben-Gvir wrote on X. He sharpened his attack: “Let’s be clear: the attorney general is a criminal in the most serious sense. She fabricates cases against the right and blocks investigations touching the left.”
Ben-Gvir also referenced his earlier demand to fire Baharav-Miara: “What a shame I was a lone voice in the government at the start of this term when I demanded her immediate dismissal.” He closed by saying: “Everything will be done so she’s investigated, prosecuted, and pays the full price for her criminality.”

Meanwhile, Religious Zionism released a statement demanding the attorney general be distanced from the investigation if she’s working to sabotage it. “If the Shin Bet chief is indeed claiming that Gali Baharav-Miara is blocking an investigation at the heart of Israeli democracy, this is an earthquake,” the party said.
Religious Zionism appealed to Central Elections Committee Chairman Judge Noam Solberg, demanding he intervene: “Elections Committee Chairman Judge Solberg must immediately order Baharav-Miara’s removal from any involvement in this matter to ensure she doesn’t contaminate the investigation as she did in the submarine affair.”

The party added: “The connection between terror organizations and an enemy entity to Arab Knesset members must be investigated thoroughly with all tools available to the Shin Bet.”
Earlier today, the attorney general rejected claims that the State Attorney’s Office is delaying investigative actions. A statement on her behalf said the Shin Bet has already approved significant investigative actions and established a joint Shin Bet-police investigation team, accompanied by the State Attorney’s Office. “Anyone who needs to be investigated—will be investigated,” her office clarified.
