Internal feuding in Israel's left-wing bloc intensifies on election eve as Democrats leader Yair Golan slams Gadi Eisenkot's 'big party' campaign strategy, calling it a dangerous lie designed to weaken his party.

Internal battles in Israel’s left-wing bloc continue even on the eve of elections: Democrats party leader Yair Golan launched a sharp attack today (Monday) against Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot, accusing him of running a campaign designed to weaken his party.

In a post on X, Golan addressed the “big party” strategy Eisenkot is leading and warned it could damage the entire bloc.

“Gadi Eisenkot, my friend, is a worthy leader, but the truth must be told now: the big party campaign is a mistake. It’s a dangerous lie,” Golan wrote. “This is a campaign designed to weaken us, the Democrats. The people who fought here for four years. The public that took to the streets to defend democracy.”

Golan continued, attacking the possible implications of the campaign on the balance of power within the bloc: “A bloc without strong Democrats is a weak bloc. A bloc that could fall apart at the moment of truth. Our message is clear: strong Democrats are better than another seat for the big party.”

Later in his remarks, the Democrats leader recalled the previous election and blamed the big party campaign that Yair Lapid ran then for damaging the bloc.

“We’ve been in this movie before in the last elections. Lapid led the big party campaign, and we lost the elections,” he wrote. “To form a government you need a majority in the bloc, and to lead real change you need a spine.”

At the end of his remarks, Golan called on voters not to respond to the call to strengthen the big party: “I’m calling on you, don’t be tempted by the big party. That’s a lie, but the fact that we need strong Democrats in the next government—that’s the truth.”

Golan’s attack comes amid another confrontation that developed within the bloc. Ronen Manlis, Eisenkot’s campaign manager, recently posted a biting tweet against Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, and later deleted it.

“Crazy thing, I almost started to believe their goal is to beat Bibi… eyes on the ball until (bloc) victory,” Manlis wrote, alongside a screenshot from a Walla article dealing with the competition between the Yashar party and Bennett and Lapid’s Yachad list.

The screenshot included an assessment from Bennett’s camp that if three more weeks remained until the elections, he would have been able to overtake Eisenkot in the polls.

So, one day before the polls open, the battle between the parties over voters and their standing within the bloc continues to generate public confrontations, even though their leaders declare a shared goal: replacing Netanyahu’s government.
