United States President Donald Trump issued a fierce counterattack against former President Hussein Barack Obama on Sunday in a statement published on Truth Social,
responding aggressively to Obama’s recent criticisms of the administration’s military campaign against Iran and targeting his endorsement of Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
The public clash follows a weekend campaign address delivered by Obama in Cleveland, Ohio, where the former President mocked Trump’s ongoing architectural renovations at the White House complex, compared the redesigned executive residence to an ostentatious property built by Saddam Hussein, and accused the administration of destabilizing the Strait of Hormuz and driving up domestic consumer fuel prices through military operations against Tehran.
Rejecting the critique, President Trump directly targeted Obama’s foreign policy record in the Middle East and his diplomatic accommodations toward the Iranian regime. “Obama was a grossly incompetent president! He paid Iran billions of dollars and paved their way to a nuclear weapon,” Trump wrote, invoking the cash transfers and sanctions relief delivered under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which Trump unilaterally vacated during his first term in office.
Broadening his critique beyond national security, Trump ridiculed Obama’s effectiveness as an electoral surrogate, pointing to his inability to carry endorsed Democratic nominees over the finish line in critical presidential cycles. “He said Crooked Hillary Clinton would win, campaigned intensively for her, and she lost in every way possible,” Trump posted. “Then he mobilized with all his strength for Kamala Harris, and she lost too.”

Trump then turned his attention to the competitive Senate contest in Michigan, leveling blistering accusations against Abdul El-Sayed, the physician and progressive political activist whom Obama has actively backed in an effort to hold the pivotal battleground seat. “Now he is campaigning for a Muslim Brotherhood jihadist who hates Jews, Blacks, Americans, and Trump, and he is about to lose as well,” the President stated.
The sharp exchange illustrates the deepening polarization characterizing the final stretch of the 2026 midterms, as both current and former commanders-in-chief take center stage to define the narrative around regional security in the Middle East, the rising cost of living, and decisive legislative races across the American industrial heartland.
