Ramadan Mohammed Ashhadeh Diab, head of the Popular Resistance Committees terror organization in Khan Younis, was killed Wednesday night in a joint IDF and Shin Bet airstrike in southern Gaza. Throughout the war, and particularly in recent months, the terrorist promoted attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and worked to rebuild Hamas’s capabilities. Diab did so while systematically violating the ceasefire, and was therefore eliminated in an airstrike to remove the threat he posed.
The Popular Resistance Committees terror organization was founded in 2000 and was previously subordinate to the Fatah movement. Today, the group is linked to the Hamas and Hezbollah terror organizations and to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Its operatives participated in the October 7 massacre, murdered civilians and soldiers, and kidnapped them to Gaza. Throughout the war, members of the organization carried out numerous attacks against IDF forces in cooperation with Hamas.
The strike joins a series of attacks the IDF has conducted in the Khan Younis area in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Ibrahim Allam, a commander in Hamas’s military wing, was killed in the area. According to the IDF, Allam infiltrated Israel on October 7, participated in the murder of civilians, and helped transfer the body of armored corps fighter Shaked Dahan into captivity. Last week, an operative in the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad was killed in the area—the military said he, too, was working to carry out attacks.
