Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Aisman decided Monday that MK Yitzhak Kreuzer of Otzma Yehudit will be questioned under caution on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

The incident took place during a memorial evening for four IDF soldiers who fell in the War of Independence, including Kreuzer’s childhood friend, Aviad Neiman. According to the lawmaker’s account, an argument broke out between police and bereaved families during the memorial. Kreuzer says he arrived at the scene, identified himself as a member of Knesset, and tried to calm things down—but claims police used unreasonable force against him and others present. Exclusive footage from the incident aired tonight on Channel 14’s main newscast.
Meanwhile, police confirmed they are investigating a claim that an officer was attacked and his nose broken during the event. According to police, videos show Kreuzer as part of the commotion, and if he’s found to have been involved in the assault, police will seek approval from the Investigations and Intelligence Division to question him.

In a letter to the police commissioner, Kreuzer argues that leaking details in a one-sided manner could harm the search for truth and create a public verdict before the facts are examined. He says there’s suspicion of abuse of government authority to harm him for political motives.
