Qatar is working to arrange a meeting during the UN General Assembly between President Trump and either Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian or Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to information obtained by Channel 14.
Tehran, however, remains highly skeptical about the possibility of such a meeting materializing. For Trump, the option exists—not as a gesture of reconciliation, but if it serves American strategy toward Iran and allows Washington to apply additional pressure.
Despite Iranian skepticism that a direct meeting between Pezeshkian and Trump is unlikely, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the president is open to meeting with Iranians on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The comments suggest Washington is keeping the door open for a diplomatic move during the coming days in New York.
