Itamar Ben Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party announced that a full judicial reform will be a precondition for joining the next government. The statement came in response to a High Court decision that blocks a state memorial ceremony for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
In a party statement, Otzma Yehudit said: “Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was a spiritual leader who dedicated his life to the Torah of Israel, to the unity of the people of Israel, and to bringing entire communities closer to Torah and tradition. The decision to prevent a state event in his memory is a disgrace and illustrates the depth of the disconnect between the judicial system and the people.”
Otzma Yehudit linked the High Court decision to its demands for changes in the judicial system, adding: “This decision sharpens even more the need for a deep fix in the judicial system. A full, comprehensive and real judicial reform will be a precondition for Jewish Power’s entry into the next government.”
