Iran executed two men convicted of spying for Israel after they allegedly passed intelligence on military and security sites to the Mossad during recent hostilities, according to a report published Monday by the regime-affiliated Mizan news agency.
The two men, Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat, were found guilty of providing images and information on military, police, and security installations to individuals linked to the Mossad, the report said. Their death sentences were upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court before being carried out.
According to Iran’s Fars news agency, a forensic examination of Behzad’s mobile phone allegedly found that he had repeatedly transmitted the precise locations of military, police, and security facilities using mapping applications. Iranian authorities claimed that during questioning, Behzad admitted to identifying the sites through those apps and passing the coordinates to individuals connected to the Mossad.
Regarding Safvat, Iranian authorities alleged that he transferred the locations of security facilities to a satellite television channel operating outside the country, which they claimed was being used to gather intelligence. Officials further stated that he was placed under surveillance after material he allegedly provided was used by the channel for intelligence-gathering and media purposes.
Since the war began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched large-scale strikes against Iran and eliminated ‘Supreme Leader’ Ali Khamenei, Iranian authorities have increased the number of executions carried out across the country. According to human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Iran ranks among the world’s leading executioners and is second only to Communist China in the number of executions it carries out annually.
