Syrian security forces arrested members of a cell allegedly linked to the terror organization Hezbollah on Tuesday, suspected of planning an attack on the refinery in the central city of Homs. Explosives intended for the attack were seized during the operation, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA.

According to the report, Syrian intelligence services and the country’s internal security forces carried out the operation in cooperation. Authorities did not say how many suspects were arrested or when the plot to strike the oil facility was uncovered.
Hezbollah quickly denied the accusations. In a statement, the organization claimed it has no presence in Syria and is not involved in any activity that harms the country’s security and stability.

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024, Syrian authorities have accused Hezbollah of involvement in a series of plots to harm the country’s security, including assassination attempts, attacks, and smuggling of weapons.
The Homs refinery is one of Syria’s main oil processing facilities and a critical source of fuel for the domestic market. The planned attack, according to authorities, could have disrupted operations at a central facility in Syria’s energy sector.
