Committee chairman Judge Noam Solberg told the session that voters—not officials—determine election outcomes. “As everyone knows, one of the central features of the democratic system is the ability to hold peaceful transfers of power. This has been the case in our country since its founding,” Solberg said. “Political upheavals, surprises, and fierce disputes have never undermined the basic consensus that election results must be respected. This is a very precious resource of our state. We must handle it with great care. It’s easy to break, very hard to repair.”

Solberg added that suspicions raised about certain aspects of the election process are being investigated, but stressed that at this stage they remain suspicions only—and don’t cast doubt on the elections as a whole or justify delaying the results. He emphasized that relevant authorities must cooperate to exhaust the investigation process.
