An unusual security incident unfolded overnight between Saturday and Sunday at the Damon security prison in northern Israel,
where two German nationals were detained after being caught actively photographing the entrance to the high-security compound.
The incident commenced when Israel Prison Service (IPS) guards stationed at the facility observed two individuals standing across from the prison gates and documenting the perimeter.
Suspecting hostile reconnaissance, an armed guard unit was immediately dispatched to intercept and question the pair.During an initial field inspection, personnel examined the suspects’ mobile devices and found photographs of the prison gates, along with additional images depicting other Israeli security facilities and sensitive operational activities.
After preliminary identification procedures, authorities confirmed the suspects were German citizens.
Given the gravity of the unauthorized documentation and the nature of the materials discovered in their possession,
the Israel Prison Service transferred the suspects and the seized devices to the Israel Police. Investigators are examining the suspects’ backgrounds, entry timeline into the country, and operational motives to clarify whether the documentation was linked to intelligence gathering or criminal activity.
