After days of intense backchannel pressure to convince “Amcha Israel” chairman Ofer Winter to exit the parliamentary race, the right-wing coalition has formally pivoted its tactics less than a week before Israelis head to the voting booths.

The push to remove Winter from the field reached a climax after Religious Zionism leader Bezalel Smotrich made an unprecedented offer: he proposed surrendering
a senior ministerial portfolio from his party’s coalition quota to Winter in the next government in exchange for his slate’s immediate withdrawal. The initiative was designed to eliminate the threat of tens of thousands of right-wing votes being discarded beneath the 3.25% electoral threshold.Despite the sweeping proposal and consultations with senior rabbinic figures, Winter signaled no intention of stepping aside, publicly refusing to abandon his independent run. Confronted by Winter’s refusal, coalition leadership determined that further efforts to negotiate a voluntary exit were futile, opting instead to alter their strategy in the final stretch of the campaign. Rather than seeking a brokered departure, the coalition is launching a direct campaign to peel away Winter’s core voter base.

“By rejecting an offer that would have actively implemented the ideological values of his platform, Ofer Winter climbed far too high up the tree and will no longer agree to withdraw,” a senior coalition figure conceded during closed-door deliberations.
According to the official, the immediate operational goal has shifted entirely to vote suppression of the splinter faction: “The objective now is to shrink his vote share as much as humanly possible, peeling away traditional right-wing voters so that Winter is left only with isolated ballots that would never have gone to the national camp anyway.”

With the election scheduled in under a week and recent Channel 14 polling pegging “Amcha Israel” at approximately 1.7%, it remains to be seen whether the coalition’s aggressive vote-peeling offensive will succeed in neutralizing the splinter list, or whether thousands of right-wing ballots will ultimately be lost beneath the electoral threshold.
