A year after it was hit by an Iranian missile, Haifa’s Sail Tower—nicknamed “The Missile”—is returning to full operation today (Tuesday). Multiple government ministries, including Justice, Education, Interior, and Health, have resumed full operations in the tower. At the same time, the state signed a massive deal extending the government office leases for another 16 years, expressing confidence in the city’s future.

The tower, owned by the Nazarian family, underwent comprehensive renovation and restoration work over the past year. The building’s owners are expected to invest an additional 100 million shekels (~$27 million) in upgrading systems and infrastructure, including air conditioning, elevators, access control systems, and fire suppression. The Nazarian family is known for its extensive philanthropic work for Israeli society through the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Foundation.
Dr. Sharon Nazarian, one of the building’s owners, said: “The story of the Sail Tower is the story of the state—an exceptional icon, different and unique on the skyline, that no matter what, continues forward stronger, more upgraded, more upright and proud. Even when the building had to be evacuated, we knew the return to it was only a matter of time. We believe in the building, in the city, and in the state, and we’re happy to see that this is mutual.”

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav welcomed the move: “The return of government ministries to the Sail Tower is important news for Haifa and its residents. The lease extension and the significant investment are a clear expression of confidence in Haifa and its future. The government complex is a significant anchor in the lower city, and the return to full operation will strengthen businesses and help continue the renewal momentum of the area.”
