Metallica frontman James Hetfield paused his Las Vegas show to declare the band won't use the stage to push political agendas—an apparent jab at rapper Macklemore, who was dropped from Ed Sheeran's tour after calling to 'free Palestine.'

Metallica frontman James Hetfield paused during a concert in Las Vegas to thank fans traveling from afar, delivering a pointed message from the stage: “Metallica is not here, like some other artists, to influence you with their bullshit. No bullshit.” Hetfield’s comments arrive against the backdrop of recent fallout involving rapper Macklemore, who was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour after staging an anti-Israel protest while opening the show.

Performing as part of the band’s “Life Burns Faster” tour, Hetfield emphasized that Metallica seeks to give fans an environment where outside worries can be left at the door: “We’re here to forget all that crap outside. Metallica’s agenda is love, energy, and music.” While he did not single out specific musicians by name, the message was unmistakable: when fans come to a show, the music alone belongs center stage.

Just last month, rapper Macklemore used his opening slot during Ed Sheeran’s concert in New Jersey to push hostile rhetoric against Israel. Draped in a keffiyeh, Macklemore chanted “free ‘Palestine'” and performed the anti-Israel protest track “Hind’s Hall” while images from Gaza were projected behind him. In the wake of the public outcry, Macklemore was dismissed from the remainder of Sheeran’s tour dates.

His removal triggered an immediate cascade of boycotts: three other opening acts on Sheeran’s tour sequentially withdrew in protest. Irish folk outfit Beoga, who accompanied Sheeran on a string of tracks during the set, also announced their departure, alleging that Macklemore had been “silenced by Zionist lobbyists.” Sheeran, for his part, avoided taking a definitive stance, stating that the decision to remove Macklemore from the lineup was made entirely by tour producers and venue executives.
