Democrats party leader Yair Golan openly endorsed forming a government with Arab parties, calling Arab-Jewish partnership "positive"—while his bloc partners try to hide the same plan. Likud and coalition allies pounced on the remarks.

While his bloc partners try to hide their intentions, Yair Golan keeps revealing the truth and pushing to form a government with the Arab parties. The Democrats chairman again spoke in favor of the move and said he views it as a positive action. His bloc partner and coalition parties responded sharply.

Yair Golan said in a holiday weekend interview that from his perspective, Arab-Jewish partnership in government is a positive thing. With these remarks, Golan again winked at the Ra’am party of Abbas and Saglobitz and made clear that the left-wing bloc’s goal is to include them as part of the government.

Golan: “The day after these elections end, we’ll face a very, very simple dilemma that in my eyes isn’t a dilemma—whether we form a government of repair and rebuilding.” At this point, Golan was interrupted and asked: “With Ra’am?” He replied: “Yes! With Ra’am! Arab-Jewish partnership in government is a positive thing.”

His bloc partner, Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman, responded: “I say again: no coalition will be formed with the Arab parties. Yair Golan is apparently under pressure from his party colleagues and some of his voters following the vote in favor of disqualifying Balad chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh. He lost support in the Arab street, and now, in a desperate attempt to win back voters, he’s spreading things that aren’t true.”

Likud issued a statement: “Yair Golan is revealing the truth tonight. He and his partner Eisenkot will form a left-wing government with the Arab parties. That’s what these elections are about: either right-wing or ‘Palestine’—only Likud will prevent the formation of a left-Arab government of Eisenkot, Golan, Liberman, Bennett and the Arab parties.”

Finance Minister Smotrich also responded to Golan’s remarks: “Yair Golan is saying out loud again what his partners Eisenkot and Liberman are trying to hide by any means. Together the three of them will form a dangerous government, a Saison government in partnership with the Arab parties. A government that will continue the tyranny of the judicial system, evacuate the settlements and outposts we established, and harm the Jewish identity of the State of Israel.”
