The attempted terror attack on Fly Dubai flight FZ1073 from the United Arab Emirates to Israel continues to dominate international media coverage, particularly in the Arab press. But in Oman, outlets have chosen to report the bare facts of the case—while omitting the origins of the pilots involved. That’s after it was confirmed that the pilot who attacked his co-pilot is from Oman.

On the news site Shabiba (الشبيبة), coverage of the incident has been extremely sparse. The latest update on the site reads: “Two additional pilots who were on board a flydubai flight took control of the aircraft and landed it, shortly after a confrontation broke out between the captain and his assistant inside the cockpit, as reported by The New York Times citing one of the flight’s passengers.”
Another major Omani outlet wrote: “Fly Dubai announced the eruption of a confrontation inside the cockpit of flight FZ1073, which was en route from Dubai International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, which led the flight crew to divert the aircraft and make a precautionary landing at Tabuk Airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Not all of Oman’s popular news sites even reported on the incident. Local sites that publish primarily in English focused mainly on a visit by a senior Emirati official to the capital, Muscat.
