Hamas and Islamic Jihad are planning to take over the ‘Palestinian’ Authority, which controls parts of Judea and Samaria, the Associated Press reported Tuesday. According to the report, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have agreed to form an “unexpected election coalition” with former senior Fatah official and current advisor to the UAE president, Mohammed Dahlan.
The terror organizations plan to create a governing alternative to Abbas—assuming the aging chairman ever calls for elections. According to the Islamic Jihad secretary-general, who spoke with the news agency, the organizations believe that joining forces with the former Fatah official will enable them to defeat Abbas in elections among Arab residents of Judea and Samaria.
But this attempt by the Gaza-based terror organizations can only materialize if elections are declared in the West Bank—something that hasn’t happened in 20 years. Since seizing power, Abbas has moved to hold elections once, but canceled them as well.
