Rubio’s remarks coincided with a speech by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian before the United Nations General Assembly. In his briefing, Rubio stated unequivocally that Washington remains resolute in defending international shipping corridors throughout the Persian Gulf and will not tolerate any disruption to freedom of navigation.
Addressing the fragile maritime security climate in the region, Rubio clarified the administration’s strategic position regarding the critical chokepoint: “We understand that the Strait of Hormuz is an issue.
