Yemeni government forces announced on Saturday the full territorial liberation of the city and district of Hays in the western Al Hudaydah Governorate, dislodging the Iranian-backed Houthi terror organization from its remaining footholds. The official Yemeni state news agency quoted a senior military official who confirmed that while the city center of Hays had previously been liberated, rural sectors of the surrounding district had remained under the operational grip of the Iranian regime’s proxy militia—until now.
The official stated that government troops systematically restored authority and advanced toward entrenched Houthi positions, sending terror elements into a chaotic retreat. The offensive inflicted dozens of casualties among the Houthis, including both dead and wounded fighters. Military sources confirmed that government units are securing the newly liberated sectors and fortifying operational outposts to ensure the district’s permanent stabilization. The Hays district holds decisive geographic and strategic significance, situated in the southeastern sector of the broader Al Hudaydah Governorate—home to the vital Red Sea port.
Crucially, the coastal highway and primary logistical artery connecting the port of Mocha to the city of Al Hudaydah and the central highlands run directly through the district. This makes Hays a pivotal chokepoint that has long served as an indispensable corridor for both commercial distribution and the Houthis’ illicit terror transit networks.
