The United Arab Emirates’ foreign ministry issued a sharp condemnation Monday of a hostile Iranian attack on the country, after Emirati air defenses intercepted a drone over territorial waters approaching from Iran’s direction.

In an official statement, the UAE said it “strongly condemns the hostile Iranian attack on the country, carried out using a drone that was intercepted by air defense systems over the UAE’s territorial waters. This is a dangerous escalation that constitutes a blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty, security and stability, and poses a direct threat to the safety of its citizens and residents.”
The foreign ministry added that such attacks are unacceptable acts of aggression, emphasizing that the country will not tolerate any threat to its sovereignty and reserves “the full legitimate right to respond to these attacks in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, national security and territorial integrity.” The UAE held Iran fully responsible for the attacks and their consequences, demanding an immediate halt to hostile actions. According to the Emirati defense ministry, forces “dealt with” the aircraft and intercepted it, with no casualties or damage reported so far. Tehran has not yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
1+The drone interception comes against the backdrop of renewed direct confrontation between the U.S. and Iran after a period of relative calm. On Sunday, American forces struck Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz area, and according to U.S. Central Command, the strike was carried out after identifying activity by Revolutionary Guard forces preparing to launch rockets carrying naval mines into international shipping lanes.
Command spokesman Tim Hawkins said, “Iran created the threat, and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian sailors, commercial shipping and the free flow of global commerce.” The American strike focused on the Larak Island area, and while the U.S. characterized it as a limited and precise operation, Tehran reported casualties among its forces.
In response to the Larak Island strike, Iran fired ballistic missiles at American bases in Jordan.
