An Iranian military spokesman said today (Wednesday) that all weapons systems damaged during the war with Israel and the United States have been “restored,” adding that the country has also imported new systems. “The new systems were supplied to us through the defense industry and the military, while some were imported from abroad,” the spokesman said. He added that the new equipment has strengthened Iran’s operational capabilities.
Earlier, Iran announced what it described as significant progress in talks with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz. An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesman said understandings had been reached during talks between the two countries regarding the respective roles of Iran and Oman in the strait. The announcement comes despite continued heavy U.S. pressure on Tehran, while disputes over control of the strait, freedom of navigation and sanctions against Iran remain unresolved.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the full details of the understandings have not yet been released, leaving it unclear how they would translate into the management of traffic through the strait or precisely what responsibilities each country would assume. “The U.S. is creating obstacles for negotiations between Iran and Oman, and as a result, they have been delayed,” the spokesman said. “The Strait of Hormuz will not open unless the U.S. accepts our conditions.”
