After a roughly three-year break, direct flights from Israel to Morocco are back. Last night an Arkia flight landed in Marrakesh, resuming the direct route between Tel Aviv and the southern Moroccan city.
1+Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to celebrate the inaugural flight, along with Transportation Minister Miri Regev, Transportation Ministry Director General Moshe Ben Zaken, Israel Airports Authority Director Maj. Gen. (res.) Yiftach Ron-Tal, and Arkia CEO Oz Berlovich. For now, two direct flights per week are scheduled between Tel Aviv and Marrakesh. The route’s revival comes after months of coordination with aviation and security officials in both Israel and Morocco.
Marrakesh is considered one of Morocco’s most iconic tourist destinations, and the return of direct flights allows Israelis to reach it without connecting flights. The resumption comes after a period when options for flying directly between the countries were more limited, following Israeli carriers’ suspension of service on the route.
1+Arkia won’t be alone for long. Israir is also planning to resume direct flights to Marrakesh starting September 1, 2026. Initially, the carrier expects to operate one flight per week through the end of October.
The return of both airlines could expand the supply of direct flights between Israel and Morocco heading into the fall and holiday season, after the destination was inaccessible in the format Israelis had grown accustomed to. For travelers, it mainly means the return of another option to reach Morocco on a direct flight from Israel, without a stopover along the way.
