Israel and Venezuela have agreed to restore consular relations following talks in recent weeks and days between Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia. Under the agreement, the countries will establish a coordination mechanism to provide consular services to citizens of both nations.

The move creates an official coordination channel between Israel and Venezuela, which have not maintained diplomatic relations since 2009. The joint announcement also emphasized the connection between Israel and Venezuela’s Jewish community.
The countries also agreed to continue cooperation on emergency response and recovery efforts following the earthquake. An Israeli relief delegation, led by the Foreign Ministry and the Home Front Command, traveled to Venezuela after earthquakes struck the country on June 24 and provided professional assistance to emergency and recovery efforts.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the agreement came after the Israeli humanitarian delegation’s visit to Venezuela and talks between senior officials from both sides. The cooperation will continue as part of efforts following the disaster.
The two countries also agreed to establish a coordination mechanism that will allow them to provide consular services to their citizens living in the other country, as needed. The announcement added that both governments recognize the importance of the connection between Israel and Venezuela’s Jewish community, viewing it as a bridge of historic friendship between the nations.
