US War Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed the American strike that ultimately did not take place on Monday, emphasizing that the US military was prepared to execute the mission at any moment—and that readiness remains high even now despite ongoing talks between the parties.
“The Department of Defense was prepared and ready, and remains ready, at levels not seen since World War II. We are ready and prepared right now as well,” Hegseth said, clearly emphasizing that despite the decision not to execute the strike, the US military continues to maintain high alert for any development.
Hegseth’s comments come after US President Donald Trump decided over the weekend not to move forward with the planned strike against Iran, following days of growing speculation that Washington was on the brink of entering the military campaign. The decision sparked widespread interest in America and globally, given the extensive military buildup that preceded it.
As recalled, Trump addressed the ongoing talks between Iran and the US overnight, saying: “We are talking to them, it will save many lives.” Additionally, the President assessed that understandings regarding the Strait of Hormuz are already in place and that an agreement to disarm Iran of nuclear weapons will eventually be reached.
