Political analyst Yaakov Bardogo addressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s expected visit to the United States this morning (Monday). Bardogo emphasized that while the visit is important, it is not “dramatic” or one that “totally changes the regional reality,” but rather a “working visit” that will focus primarily on the Iranian issue.
According to Bardogo, the eighth meeting between the prime minister and the US president will address questions concerning the entire region, starting with Gaza, through Lebanon and Syria. He noted that Israel will not come “to lobby for one action or another,” but rather “will present the facts, the analyses.” The dialogue will be in the spirit of “an exchange of views” and examining the path forward, half a year after they went to war “shoulder to shoulder.”
Bardogo added that Netanyahu will clarify the points Israel needs and explain the necessity for “a different, new security concept for Israel” following the events of October 7th. “You can no longer defend Israel from the border,” he said. He also noted that peace agreements will be discussed, and that “the Gulf states are looking for a way to reach Israel,” an issue that may ripen toward September and “the UN show” which will be “a bigger event” than planned.
