A major fire broke out today (Monday) in northern Tehran in a building adjacent to the Persian Esteghlal Hotel. Heavy black smoke covered the large structure, and flames were visible from nearby rooftops.
A reporter for Iran’s state television at the scene said “hotel guests were evacuated for their safety.” Meanwhile, a spokesman for Tehran’s fire services announced that the fire at the hotel was brought under full control, and no casualties were reported in the incident.
The official news agency IRNA noted that the hotel, formerly known as the Royal Hilton and opened in the 1960s, includes over 550 rooms and suites. The Tasnim news agency added that authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
