Following the announcement of the removal of ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the urgent need to dismantle the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In his statement following the discussion, Prime Minister Netanyahu highlighted the shared commitment between Israel and the United States to counter the international court: “
I spoke yesterday with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and once again he reaffirmed to me the United States’ intention to act forcefully against the International Criminal Court (ICC).”
Netanyahu continued: “The ICC endangers justice around the world, and it also threatens the right of democrati
c, sovereign states to exercise their sovereignty. In effect, it seeks to subject their security to the decisions of a corrupt clique i
n The Hague.”
The bilateral talks come alongside major developments in Latin America. The United States welcomed the decision by interim President Delcy Rodríguez and Venezuela to formally withdraw from the ICC and partner with American-led efforts aimed at dissolving the court.
U.S. officials pointed to the court’s multi-year record as justification for the move, noting that the ICC had been investigating Nicolás Maduro since 2018 without concrete results. Officials argued that rather than focusing on non-compliant regimes, the ICC has consistently overreached by targeting nations with fully independent, competent judicial systems that never acceded to the court’s jurisdiction.

Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, declared on X that the ICC is “neither credible, independent, nor legitimate,” calling on all member states of the ICC to formally withdraw from the Rome Statute.”
