Against the backdrop of the security situation, Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri ordered the city’s public shelters opened Thursday. The move is a precautionary measure by the municipality, even though there has been no change in the Home Front Command’s official defense policy for the area.
2+Following the mayor’s directive, the city’s emergency and security department opened the public shelters, and enforcement units are conducting frequent patrols. All operators of dual-purpose shelters have been notified and are required to be ready for immediate opening upon receiving instructions or an alert.
Alongside the preparedness measures the municipality is taking, residents are being urged to know their protected space at all times and continue following Home Front Command instructions. To reassure the public, the city emphasized that Eilat has extensive defense coverage at sea, in the air, and on land.
2+All security forces in the sector are defined as ready, alert, and prepared for any scenario, and routinely conduct ongoing drills and training exercises. At the same time, the mayor is holding ongoing situation assessments together with security force commanders.
Earlier Thursday, Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama HaCohen also announced the opening of all shelters in the city, and called on building committees to ensure the refreshment of shared shelters in buildings.
2+In a Facebook post, Shama HaCohen noted that “the assessment is that the risk of fire from Iran at the end of the week has increased—and is no longer negligible.” According to him, despite the cost of opening, it’s right to exercise extra caution with the hope that the move will prove unnecessary.
