Muhammad Awad, a 29-year-old resident of Nazareth, was brought into custody today (Tuesday) on suspicion of attempting to recruit with the Hamas terror organization to advance terrorist activity—including an attack on a sitting government minister.

Investigators found that Awad reached out to Hamas with the goal of recruiting and obtaining resources to advance terrorist activity, and planned to carry out an attack on a sitting government minister. Following the investigation, the Northern District Prosecutor’s Office filed a prosecutor’s statement this morning at the Nof HaGalil-Nazareth court ahead of filing an indictment against Awad.
