The IDF is on high alert following yesterday’s (Sunday) launches from Iran toward Jordan, the closest fire to Israeli territory in recent months. Israeli security officials estimate that the risk of escalation in the near term has risen significantly, amid the possibility that the United States will raise the threshold of strikes against Iran.

In Jerusalem, officials view the fire as Tehran’s attempt to test the boundaries of the sector vis-à-vis Israel and the region, but at this stage the assessment is that both the United States and Iran still seek to avoid a full regional war.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military continues to reinforce forces at its bases in the Middle East, including through fighter jets and refueling aircraft. Israel maintains ongoing dialogue with the Americans, and security officials are preparing for a range of scenarios, including possible Israeli involvement or an unexpected Iranian move.
2+The IDF Chief of Staff addressed the developments last night during a visit to Judea and Samaria, saying: “We are closely monitoring the developments and maintaining high alert. We are ready to return immediately to combat and will act forcefully against anyone who harms us.”
In discussions at the political level, an assessment emerged that an American decision to intensify strikes on Iran could materialize soon. Alongside the military effort, envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump are trying to advance a return to agreement talks, in an attempt to prevent further deterioration.
2+Security officials fear that the American force buildup in the region could lead Iran to make an uncalculated move, dragging the region into miscalculation and broad escalation. An Israeli official said that “we are preparing for all possibilities and building immediate and strategic operational options. If the Americans decide to escalate or involve Israel, or if the Iranians make a move against us, we will be ready.”
As of now, the central assessment in Israel is that despite the rise in tensions, the United States and Iran are still avoiding breaking point. Nevertheless, the IDF and security establishment are maintaining high alert, fearing additional launch attempts or an unusual Iranian move that would require a response.
