Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Sunday that two ships were involved in an “accident” while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the incident occurred when the vessels tried to pass through an “unsafe route.” Two other ships in the area changed course and abandoned the route.
The Revolutionary Guards claim all four ships ignored early warnings directed at them by Iran. The statement also alleged the vessels were operating with support and backing from the United States.
In an official statement, the Revolutionary Guards issued a warning to ships in the area: “Vessels influenced by American statements and choosing unsafe routes—will necessarily encounter incidents.” Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue, with Iran emphasizing that disobedience to its warnings will lead to similar outcomes in the future.
