Dena Karari, an American citizen arrested in Iran on espionage charges, landed in the United States after 566 days of wrongful detention. Her attorney, Jared Genser, announced Saturday that Karari arrived in San Francisco draped in an American flag, welcoming her return to “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
1+President Donald Trump announced Karari’s release Wednesday, calling it a “gesture of goodwill” from Iran. Trump emphasized that Karari was arrested in December 2024 under Joe Biden’s “presidency,” and noted she is now outside Tehran and in good condition.
Karari, a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen, worked for an American technology company and ran a children’s charity in Tehran. She was arrested by Iranian authorities, and after her release from prison, her passports were confiscated, preventing her from leaving the country until now.
