In response to Washington’s seventh round of strikes against targets in Tehran overnight Friday, Iran launched a sweeping wave of attacks against targets across the Middle East, including Kuwait and Jordan, as well as a particularly heavy barrage on Saudi Arabia that drew fierce condemnation.
According to Reuters, Kuwait experienced one of its worst nights since the conflict began—a second power station was hit within two days, flights were suspended, and electricity, water, and oil infrastructure were bombed. Americans also suffered casualties, with two direct hits on a military base in Jordan. Two American soldiers were killed and another is missing, joining what CBS reports as a list of 16 soldiers killed in the current war with Iran, including in previous strikes in Kuwait, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.
Iran’s leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei addressed the escalation, calling President Trump’s strike “completely worthless and lacking any credibility.” Khamenei warned of “unforgettable lessons” if the U.S. continues its attacks, saying in a statement: “Now, as the American enemy seeks to escalate the confrontation and thereby impose heavier costs and further humiliation on itself, it must know that the noble Iranian people and the axis of resistance have unforgettable lessons in store for it.”
The Iranian strikes in Kuwait sparked fires at multiple sites, which firefighters brought under control about seven hours after the attacks. A first fire that broke out at an oil facility was extinguished after several firefighters and an oil industry worker were injured, and three additional fires that erupted in residential areas from falling interception debris were also brought under control—causing damage to buildings but no additional casualties reported. Meanwhile, Jordan’s military said earlier that it successfully intercepted 10 Iranian missiles fired toward its airspace overnight, with no damage reported.
