Hassan Nasasra, recently elected to the Balad party, published a eulogy for terrorist Maher Younes—an Israeli citizen convicted of murdering IDF soldier Avraham Bromberg and who served decades in prison.
1+After Younes died last week, Nasasra published a mourning notice praising the terrorist: “With deep sorrow and mourning, we grieve the passing of released prisoner Maher Younes. With his passing we lose a great national and humanitarian figure, a symbol of resilience and sacrifice, who left a deep mark on the hearts of all who knew him, and in the memory of his people and their cause.”
This isn’t the first time Balad has expressed positive sentiment toward Younes. After his release from prison about two years ago, party members participated in a reception held for him, and now, after his death, appreciation for him was again expressed. The ‘Palestinian’ Authority and other figures, including Zakaria Zubeidi, also came to console his family.
1+In an interview with Channel 14, Nasasra responded to the criticism, claiming “offering condolences for people who have passed is part of Islamic culture. There’s nothing wrong with it.” He also said he didn’t know that Maher Younes had served a prison sentence for murdering an IDF soldier.
Following the publication, Knesset Member Ariel Kellner announced he intends to demand the disqualification of the Balad party when the Central Elections Committee convenes. According to him, praise for terrorists by party members will be central to the arguments presented in the process, which he called “a moral disgrace.”
