Iranian state television announced Tuesday the hanging of two alleged ISIS operatives convicted of rebellion and plotting attacks, while a Norwegian human rights organization claimed they were Kurdish prisoners.
According to Iranian state TV, the two men—Mohiuddin Abdollahi and Hussein Falani—were allegedly part of a terror cell formed after ISIS withdrew from Iraqi and Syrian territory, and planned to carry out attacks inside Iran.
Iranian security forces located the cell’s hideout in the Bamu mountain area near the Iraqi border before they could execute their plans. During the raid on the hideout, a firefight broke out in which several prisoners and three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were killed. Other cell members were arrested, and weapons, ammunition and military equipment were seized at the site, according to the state TV report.
