A new poll released by Reuters and Ipsos amid escalating war with Iran shows four out of five Americans expect a prolonged U.S. military conflict with the Islamic Republic. According to the three-day survey that ended Sunday, 79% of respondents believe American military intervention in Iran will last a long time, compared to 65% in late March.
1+Only 18% of respondents said they believe the war will end “very quickly, within a few weeks.” About 37% of those surveyed supported U.S. military strikes in Iran, which Washington resumed in response to what it described as Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The poll surveyed 1,019 adults across the United States and Reuters noted it has a margin of error of about four percentage points.
Meanwhile, the war between the U.S. and Iran continues to escalate. U.S. Central Command announced it completed another wave of strikes overnight against the Islamic Republic, lasting about five hours, hitting military targets at multiple sites across the country.
1+During the strikes, American forces hit a series of military targets across Iran, including in Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas. According to Central Command’s statement, targets included coastal defense systems, missile sites, and drone facilities.
