Tensions between Washington and Tehran are escalating today (Monday) after President Donald Trump announced plans for the United States to take control of the Strait of Hormuz and impose passage fees on vessels using the strategic waterway. Iran responded with an explicit threat.
A spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters declared that Tehran would not tolerate any American role in the strait: “Following our previous statements, we will not allow American involvement in managing the Strait of Hormuz at any stage.”
He then issued a direct warning to regional countries considering cooperation with Washington: “Any cooperation with the U.S. or assistance provided to the American military will be considered a declaration of war against Iran’s sovereignty and security.”
The threat once again exposes Tehran’s strategy of using intimidation and regional instability to challenge the United States, endanger its neighbors, and tighten its grip over one of the world’s most critical waterways.
