Israel’s Transportation Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority announced Monday that Israir won the tender to operate a permanent flight route between Eilat and central Israel with subsidized fares for residents of the southern city.
1+Under the tender, Eilat residents will be able to purchase tickets for ₪99 (~$33) each way, and the airline will be required to operate at least four daily flights throughout the year. According to the tender terms, two morning flights and two evening flights will operate daily on the Eilat–central Israel route in both directions. In its bid, Israir committed to operating at least five daily flights, exceeding the minimum requirement.
The airline must begin operating the route within 45 days. The contract period is one year, during which seats will be reserved for residents of Eilat and the Eilat region, in accordance with the tender terms.
The Transportation Ministry says the move aims to ensure continuity in flights between Eilat and central Israel, after residents have frequently complained in recent years about flight shortages, cancellations, and uncertainty. The tender is designed to guarantee year-round service for residents, workers, students, and visitors.
1+Transportation Minister Miri Regev said the move is intended to strengthen Eilat’s connection to central Israel and ensure the city’s residents continuous air access at a subsidized price. Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri also welcomed the decision, saying that air continuity is essential for residents’ access to healthcare, employment, education, and academia.
