A serious antisemitic incident took place last Saturday in Berlin. A woman wearing a keffiyeh and a man wearing a shirt reading “Intifada” began hurling slurs at a couple passing by with a baby stroller.
1+A witness to the incident, a German woman, told the Jüdische Allgemeine newspaper about the terrifying moments: “When I got out of the taxi, I heard shouts like ‘Fuck Jews,’ ‘Kill the Jews,’ and ‘Viva Hamas.'” According to her, the group appeared to be operating systematically with the goal of terrorizing passersby.
Filmed the Attackers—and Was Threatened
The witness, who began filming what was happening with her cell phone, became a target herself. The man noticed the filming, approached her, shoved her, and threatened her: “Put down the phone, get out of here.” The woman, who is well familiar with the phenomenon of antisemitism from her work in Israel, quickly fled the scene and filed a police report.
1+Berlin police said an investigation has been opened for incitement and insult offenses, being handled by the State Security Unit at the regional criminal office. According to reports, the male suspect in the attack is a known extremist figure: he is believed to have previously been a member of the far-right NPD party, and later of the extremist group “Youth Resistance,” which was disbanded in 2019 and was known for its antisemitic positions.
