Israeli police and the Shin Bet arrested Bekhruz Sobirjon, a Tajikistan national holding a Russian passport, in June 2026 on suspicion of security offenses involving contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and carrying out missions at their direction.
1+The investigation revealed that starting in January 2026, Sobirjon maintained contact with an Iranian foreign agent. Most of his security-related activity took place during Operation Lion’s Roar, when he sought to help Iran achieve operational gains and advance its goals in the international arena against Israel.
Investigators found that the approach to Sobirjon began with what appeared to be an innocent job offer, but he quickly realized it came from an Iranian agent—and continued the contact anyway.
1+The missions he carried out for the Iranian agent included documenting and transmitting the locations of Iranian missile strikes during Lion’s Roar, passing along the location (a map pin) of the Azrieli Towers, photographing Haifa Port, and attempting to photograph a sensitive security facility in northern Israel. He also actively helped recruit additional people for missions on behalf of Iranian operatives.
Today, prosecutors filed a notice of intent to file serious charges against Sobirjon and requested he be held in custody until the end of proceedings at the Tel Aviv District Court. The investigation was supervised by the Tel Aviv District Attorney’s Office.
