Azerbaijan’s government is lashing out at Israel’s decision to recognize the 1915 events as genocide. Officials in Baku are warning that the move not only distorts the facts, but could deepen disputes in the region and damage efforts toward peace and reconciliation.
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement mocking the genocide of 1.5M Armenian Christians by WWI-era Turkey, “The Israeli government’s decision regarding the so-called “Armenian genocide” is of serious concern.”
Azerbaijan, a Turkish ally, wrote that they “Call on the Israeli government to reconsider this decision.”
